BTW, did anyone mention Repo Man yet? Now, there's a movie that was reportedly shelved by the new management when MCA bought Universal Studios and it was only due to the fact that the record side of the company started to sell large numbers of the compilation soundtrack that the geniuses decided to release what was to become a cult classic. :hihi:

I was never much of a punk rock fan myself but I recall enjoying the film quite a bit...
For sure, threads like this are obviously just a bit of fun. :tu:

- "I can smell your BRAINS!!!" Fabulous campy movie.
Thanks for posting the YT player WR, just what I need to help me wake up this Sat. morn.
BTW I think 'Return of the Living Dead II' was even better!(except for the soundtrack...but it worked just the same.)
- Ed: Watch your tongue, boy, if you like this job!
-Joey: Like this job?

- Been a long time since I watched 'Repo-Man'.
" The more you drive, the less intelligent you are." I would quote that for yrs after seeing this film. I was a service tech and drove a good deal myself. Duh
....................Don`t blame me for 'The Roots', I just live here. :x

Off the top of my head there were two films from the 80s that were produced by famous members of rock bands that became cult classics. The other being "Withnail and I" produced by George Harrison (Repo Man was of course financed by Michael Nesmith's "Monkees" and maybe even some of his 'Liquid Paper' inheritance money :hihi: ).

The interesting thing for me is that the setting of Withnail being the late 60s I could relate more to the Hendrix type stuff in the soundtrack while Repo Man was clearly from the 80s when I was no longer listening to rock and popular music much.

Still, both soundtracks should merit consideration, no?

Some first to come to mind:

Nic Bicat - The Reflecting Skin
Absolutely beautiful score for a stunningly beautiful and sad movie.

Mark Isham - Trouble in Mind.
An obscure but good sci-fi movie from the 80's. Isham's best soundtrack IMHO. And a beautiful title theme sung by Marianne Faithful.

Jerry Goldsmith - The Reincarnation of Peter Proud
Another rather obscure movie from 70's but with an captivating soundtrack with a mix of electronic and orchestral sounds. Great theme too.

I absolutely love Italian giallo, poliziotti and western soundtracks from the 60's and 70's. Goblins soundtracks for Dario Argento were already mentioned. Of course Ennio Morricone made many great soundtracks. Some more I can think of:

Stelvio Cipriani - Rabid Dogs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQAvt94 ... 4zaNs#t=35

Armando Trovajoli - The Manhunt
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWuxW3zsEuY

Luis Baclov - Milano Calibro 9
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xjb61sgQXA

Klaus Schulze - Next of Kin
Another obscure movie. But soundtrack by Klaus Schulze! Some very good tunes that go very well with the quite creepy movie.

Sven Grünberg - Dead Mountaineer's Hotel
Another super obscure sci-fi movie from Soviet Union but with a very unique standout soundtrack.

Usually I can not stand the modern "orchestral cinematic" scores as most of them are bland, characterless, unimaginative and boring but this was pretty good. Lisa Gerrard's vocal work greatly enhanced it.

Possibly my favourite film of all time. Amazing soundtrack too. The game S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow Of Chernobyl has an absolutely stunning dark ambient style soundtrack. Have you played it? Seeing as - I suspect - you're a gamer (with the Alice reference) you absolutely must play it if you haven't!!

I loved the Cliff Martinez ST for the 'interesting' remake of Solaris - one of my favourite OST's.
Stalker (the movie) is fantastic (that is, if you're educated enough to get it). The game also. Probably one of the best shooters ever made.

Omg, almost forgot two of my favorite muzak/lounge style soundtracks of all time.

Ron Grainer - The Omega Man.
The opening scene where Charlton Heston drives through the empty city - fantastic!
