Yeah, I definitely don't recall ever seeing a TR-808 ad on television (too niche a product for mainstream TV ads). About the only electronic instruments I can ever recall seeing advertised on TV were Casio's CZ synths and SK-1 sampler (and, I think, some synth ad, maybe another Casio, with Herbie Hancock in it) and the Yamaha DX100. Of course, that scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off was almost like an Emulator II advert. Because, you know, every high school boy in the '80s (even those whose parents couldn't afford to buy him a car after getting him a computer) had a $10,000 sampling keyboard in his bedroom to play games and make prank phone calls with.
