I was going to pick up an irig to use with my ipad 2 ios9.3.2, midi from keyboard to animoog app, out small speakers. This is for live performance, is there something better than the irig for this? I have some vintage keyboards, is there an adaptor for going line-in to an ipad (to be processed by an app synth)? I have a fireface 400, but I have not used the midi in/out and not sure if that would work with ipad.
Thanks
Thanks

Fire face 400 looks like it uses FireWire so I don't think you can use that.
For just midi you might look at one of these

Which has the great advantage of being wireless so you can have your iPad plugged into the mains.
Oops that won't work with ipad2 (no Bluetooth LE).
Roland Duo-Capture EX Works well and runs on batteries
You're going to need a USB to iPad camera connection adapter as well.
Or these are cheap now as well

I have an iRig Pro which lets me get 1 channel of audio and MIDI into my iPad. It's small and compact, but there's no audio or MIDI out.
If really compact size isn't a necessity you could pick up a small USB interface like the Steinberg UR22 mkII. This will give you inputs and outputs for audio and MIDI so you won't have to use the iPad headphone port for audio out. Make sure to get the mkII and not the original UR22 as the original one wasn't class-compliant.

I bought the iRig Pro as well, but then found that the apple camera connection kit works fine so just ordered that. I will return the iRig Pro, but I wanted to see if I could use both the audio and midi out into animoog on the ipad2. I have vintage keyboards that I wanted to process their sound through animoog while also controlling it via midi. Animoog does not appear to take audio in, just midi, and it seems that most ipad synths won't process audio in, but I still need to explore this (recommendations welcome). The iRig Pro is expensive and most new keyboards don't even have the old midi cables, the irig uno, or that Steinberg UR22 mkII are better investments if you are going to pay that much for it.
