Any tips on getting the top end smack of this bass? The mid range is easy, just some sines with FM..but there is a very nice digital sounding smack to the top of this bass that really makes it and makes it stand out. It still seems to sit in the low to high mids though. Any idea how to make this layer?

Another example of the same type of top end of the bass in a different track.
Bass is at 1:18

Its alot more stereo in the first example. You might not be able to tell it apart from the mid layer at first but after trying to make it I definately know there is a top layer smack on top of the usual FM bass. Tips would be awesome!

To my ear, there is no layer. Could it not just be a question of dynamics ? A volume envelope with short decay may provide for the click and if not, some compression with fairly long attack will.
For the second one, try a filter envelope instead, with short decay and an healthy dose of resonance.

Could try a transient designer, Multiband compression or just layering with a tight pluck

That sounds like a pretty standard FM patch with some heavyish compression added. Have your modulating operator at an octave below your carrier and play with the envelope. That'll get you most of the way there.
