I know some people will think I'm crazy but the Deluxe Reverb emulation in the free version of PODFarm is hard to beat for clean to slightly crunchy tones. If you aren't happy with the PODFarm cabinet find some free cabinet IRs and use it in conjunction with a free IR loaded like LePou's leCabinet.

Another free alternative is LePou's LexTac which does clean to high gain and everything in between very well. Highly recommend the free Redwirez cabinet IRs with this one.

I jusr remebered I have Amp and Cabinet fx that are included in Ableton live Suite, i had read they are crappy but others seems to have a positive impression. I honestly can't evaluate it myself since I am a total noob with guitar stuff.

So for those with Live Suite, Do you think Amp and cabinet effects are enough or they are total crap and I would be better using guitar rig player or Waves Gtr3 or any of the freebies suggested here?

Sounds great and is on sale for $50

It's going to be hard to settle on anything until you know what kind of sound the guitarist is looking for (clean, crunch, hi-gain, metal etc). Fortunately, there's more than enough free/demo stuff out there to cover all those. Pretty much any paid amp software (Guitar Rig, Amplitube, Revalver etc) has a demo/lite version with a small selection of free amps/cabs/stomps so just gather together all the free stuff and see what they like best.

Amp in Live is by Softube so it's probably ok. That said, I tend to use the LePou stuff quite a lot (coupled with NadIR for cabinets). I'm just partial to good freeware that doesn't need any kind of activation or keys. Ignite Amps and Mercuriall also have good freeware offerings.

How would you rate that one in comparison to the TSE X50 if you happen to know both?

For cheap, versatile and good sounding I'll throw in Kuassa.

I did - second post! It is worth mentioning twice though :)

I mentioned liking Kazrog's amp sims, and I do, the ones I've tried all have a great and usable sound. Not my preference in every head to head, but a lot of great models among them.

The Amp is kinda meh for guitar but just excellent for bass gtr.
The cab loader sounds pretty darn good

You can always tell if someone used VST2 or VST3. VST2 sounds much warmer.

I find it quicker with the Mecurial to get the tone I'm after, but it is limited. It just has a sound I click with straight away without much tweaking.
The TSE wins for flexibility though, having some cool amp IRs to work with, and being able to mix between 2 at that, means it does have a broader palette, which also means I do tend to tweak the TSE more :D

So, my choice seems to come down to how much time I have to spend on the guitar track!
I don't play much live guitar, mainly virtual, and more into power chords and textural stuff (lots of chorus, phase, flange, verb and pitch shift after the amp sim)...just for some context.

^ That's a good list.

As always, Bedroom Producers have a decent roundup: http://bedroomproducersblog.com/2012/02 ... u-plugins/

Personally, I found the presets in Ableton awful. Ok for general distressing of loops and synths but really horrible to play guitar with. Much better options out there for free.

For freeware, I think Ignites The Anvil works best for me, lovely clean sounds which is what I'm into.

I used to have Guitar Rig 5 then got the NI Komplete Elements suite in a trade here in the market place. I found everything I used in GR5 was present in the cutdown KE version so ditched GR5. :) I think overall it works best for me. I'm really into those cleaner/indie/americana style tones and the twang model does those superbly. I think the free GR Player only has the Jump amp, a marshall basically which may be enough for your purposes...

I really like this freebie -

Shattered Glass Audio Ace

Caveats:
1 - It's a Fender Champ emulation, so obviously it's a bit of a one trick pony.

2 - Guitar is not my first instrument, so my opinion may not be worth a lot :)
Why won't you delete this account as I have requested Ben ?
