Thanks - no hard feelings, sorry if it sounded confrontational or patronizing, it really wasn't meant to

Please don't leave KvR, your sounds are exceptional (as you know I have always rated your stuff highly) and presence is always welcome.

Amused, you probably got the wrong end of my reaction to a build-up of behaviour that repeatedly sours my experiences at KVR.

Thanks for all the kind words on the this thread and previous ones, but I have decided it's time for me to walk away from KVR.

All the best to those who have entertained and informed over the years.
Genuinely curious and interested here.
I totally understand (and share) your feelings but... where will you go ? Do you have some sort of "enjoyable-only" places in mind ? Needless to say that I would be more than happy to know them... :hyper:

A bit of a straw that broke the camel's back situation. Totally respect that you didn't mean to come across that way. And I temporarily forgot that I actually know you... anonymous user names vs my brain since my daughter was born!

[EDIT] I realise now I was grumpy because of somehting else, so apolgies for being a misery on this thread! I plan to stick around on KVR after all. A bit.

This is very interesting to me! In my opinion The Unfinished and Luftrum have created some of the most interesting sound packs for Diva, and in the past they have flirted with the synthwave sound so it is exciting that they've gone all in.

The walkthrough sounds great!

Sorry for the lack of reply to your post Caine, the soundset contains a huge variety of sounds which you probably already discovered by now from leads, pads and basslines. Still fresh from the synthwave lab! :)

I've been listening to quite a lot of synthwave lately (mainly Colin's FM-84 project, Mitch Murder, Com Truise and a few others) but the problem I have with many of the releases is that they are much too loud with the heavy sidechaining and they rely too much on gimmicky 80s elements like gated reverbs, FM basses and rich synth pads.
So I've turned back to 80s stuff from the 80s.
I share your feelings exactly.
The genre still has room to grow from the overuse of 80s gimmicks and EDM-influence, per mixing techniques, the heavy sidechaining, loudness and bass. The sound is definetely there, but the mood and right atmosphere still don't add up. There's something missing, or it's just so "on-the-surface".

Lex Horton did the Vice City theme in 2002 and it's still, even though dated, probably the best "pre-synthwave-synthwave-song" I've heard. It just nails the sound and mood of the 80s so perfectly in line with the rest of the game's 80s-oozing soundtrack. No sidechaining, heavy bass, simple sounds (romplers/ early soft synths?)... perfect. One of my favorite theme songs.

Well, how you decide to use our presets are entirely your own decision. The presets we have created implement no sidechaining at all, they are just presets in Diva (!?) but if you as a producer / composer decide to use such sidechaining, then by all means feel free to do so. If not, then don't use sidechaining.

Just don't judge the presets based upon a production technique which you decide to use (or not use) upon them. Our material provided (ie. the presets) are pretty unbiased. :)

I wasn't talking about your presets! Just the genre in general.

On the contrary, I noticed in Matt's demo that your presets actually sound like analog synth sounds from the 80s. Like they should.
I've tested a few "synthwave"-preset packs and I've been disappointed because they sounded like regular loud-to-full frequency spectrum-filling EDM-sounds with some tacked-on detuning. =Deleted.
This one doesn't sound like that at all, but more like the better sample packs where they sampled actual hardware synths. :tu:

Here's a really great synthwave song, I think, that gets much out of the authentic 80s production style, without relying on the over-the-top gimmicks and semi-EDM-sound:

Matt's demo showcased sounds that seemed pretty much in-line with the philosophy of "if it couln't be done in the 80s, we don't do it", that the synthwave-artists leaning towards authenticity hold close to their heart. Just the feeling I'm getting.

Congrats on this release (rather late to the party here) but having only uhe Zebra & Dark Zebra, and Tyrnell N6 - I may be very much tempted to research a bit more of DIVA, which perhaps is surprising to some, but I've never really gave it a good look!

The Unfinished alone makes great stuff, so this is on my list of things to buy in good time!

All good Aryaroman. That track you posted is stunning, very true to it's time. I recently discovered Forêt De Vin from Sweden, some truly sweet non-sidechained retro 80's pop. Check them out: https://soundcloud.com/foretdevin/lifeline love it! 8)

Glad you liked it and that track was sweet! Just A-Ha all over again. Even the synth in the image is a Juno-6. :P
