Both very enjoyable. Thanks.

From then on House took over what creativity is concerned.
Trance Nation 4 was one of my favourites, though I haven't played it in a long time. And most of the house music I've heard recently consists of the same old offbeat 5th chords repeated over again. It's like the house equivalent of the supersaw in that respect. And, while I prefer modern trance to older styles, I prefer older house to more modern house. For me, the pinnacle was probably Buffalo Stance by Neneh Cherry and Tim Simenon. And that's going right back to the 80s.

Probably not, and again, these sound really dated to me. Probably best if we agree to disagree as the thread's going a little off-track now.

Aiynzahev wrote:Nice thread. It's nice to see a civil discussion on the issue as well. If you don't like something, you don't like it. I honestly don't understand the confusion as though some people expect that all people will/should like the same thing.
Some nice additions, Sami, and I'm glad you joined the thread as it was thinking about your oldies thread that got me started on this one. The idea behind the original post was a) to find out what other people liked, and b) hopefully, that people would discover more great new(ish) tracks they haven't heard yet. Seems to be working to some extent.

There needs to be clarification of precisely what is meant by "trance"...

Haven't listened to much of it but most of what I have heard sounds quite a bit different from this, apart from the tempo. And I like all of these tracks, and think they're better than what little psy/trance I have heard.
recursive one wrote:I think, this music is much closer to the original idea behind trance, and these tracks are fairly new.
I read your post this morning and didn't get a chance to listen to the tracks until about 12 hours later, so I'd forgotten what you'd written. And all the way through listening, I was thinking, "Wow! This is more like how trance used to be originally!" :)
It seems that some people who originally liked trance and wanted to produce it but became unhappy with the current direction of mainstream trance moved onto psy. They are making more melodious/lush and less agressive kiind of progressive psy which seems to be more or less popular now (hardcore psyheads consider it cheesy but I don't care). If you liked these tracks, you may check out Digicult's "The Lucid Nation" and "Soul Samadhi" albums. Lyctum's "Tales from the Univerce" from 2012 (but not his later works - he switched to darker and much less melodious stuff, maybe for the sake of being "uncheesy"). Static Movement produces tons of stuff, alone and in collabs, not all of it is good but his best tracks are among the very best in the genre. Drukverdeler, Hi Profile, Vertex also make some nice trancey stuff.

Yes, house has since killed itself as well. I rarely find anything in modern trance (EDM?) or house interesting, apart from the very occasional track. I've accepted that a long time ago.

I've moved on to "electronic" acts, such as Isan, Apparat and Moderat, even things like Klaus Schulze, etc.

Ooops, this is trance playlist, sorry guys.

On recursive's request, gonna leave it, it's leaning more towards psytrance and goa tho, but it's good trance IMHO, little harsh in places maybe, but it's all part of the journey. Image Image Image Image

Thanks. I'll check all those out :)

I'm resurrecting this thread in order to encourage people to post whatever good trance they happen to come across. Other genres bordering trance are also welcome.

These have broken beats. But they are still trance I think.

Nice choices. Here's another one from me. I wish Solarstone would make more of his own music, but I guess he doesn't have a lot of time.

Another off topic one, "newer" one sounding old, same old goa, but it just got some charm, especially around 1:20 8)

Todays Trance seems to be so overproduced and less in ideas, that Ferry Corsten reanimated Gouryella...
