I liked trance in the 90'...where it was really "trancey"...now it's more "dancey" :D
But it seems nearly everything is called trance today. But i have the feeling today everything is EDM. But maybe i'm just getting too old
Too the topic, i like(d) Dune 2 much more!
Spire sounds great but....that's it.
Of course as always a matter of taste.

I used to love trance, really. Sometimes I think I still do and then I go to mixcloud, listen to a random trance show and quickly understand that no, I don't. I guess I have identified one of the main sources of the problem, packs like these http://www.reveal-sound.com/store/produ ... _Midi_Kits - advertised to contain premade melodies, Spire presets and flps. Drop this into your fruity loops, add a kick from vengeance and you are good to go. You don't waste your time at writing melodies, making sounds and other annoying crap, so you may concentrate on your main task - making your ears bleed of overcompression.

Other thing is that trance has now completely lost this "futuristic/augmented reality" vibe it used to have. Today's trance is all about "i'm feeling great, the sun is shining, let's hang out and dance" and like that. Nothing wrong with that but not my thing.

You own Serum, so in this case Dune 2 would suit better as complimentary synth. Simply because Spire has also agressive and sticking out character like Serum has so it doesnt compliment that much.

Also dune 2 is more then capable of trancy sounds

I thought the Spire demo was a joke really.
What a horrible sounding tin can of nothing but effects.
Turn off the effects in Spire, and I can literally hear a resemblance to One Ping Only.
Im surprised how serious you can be. I think its just a hate because Spire sounds nothing but amazing without fx, very clean and punchy sound.

 It is so true these days!

I'm glad that I enjoy a lot writing the melodies/harmonies/drums (sometimes). Being a musician is much more fun than being a mixing engineer!

A producer I sent this too said it was too "trancey" and didn't want any part of it.

I don't hear it but I guess it's got a trance flavor. Not sure. But yes, I like writing melodies.

PS - The main ARP is Dune 2.

it does sound like a 90s commercial euro trance quite a bit in places. :tu:

Every time I hear this EDM stuff it makes me want to down three energy drinks, snort a few lines of meth and go on a killing spree with a sledge hammer. It just pisses me off. I have to walk away. I have no idea why you would even waste your time.

Now, I spent the rest of the day yesterday with Spire and I was loading up all my old presets and making new ones. Don't tell me it sounds the same. Spire is being killed by cpu optimization thanks to the EDM kids. It used to have a FAT round low end. It used to go really brassy like a prophet 600. It used to be smooth with beautiful musical filters. Now its buzzy, ringy, lots of phasing. The filters are getting thin. Blah. A perfect example of how cpu optimization gets in the way of a great instrument. Just chalk it up to more I don't get about this generation.

Ableton + 2008 really killed music for several generations. It's starting to recover slowly. Makers are making again, musicians can afford to buy again. People can afford to explore their creativity again. But the immediate gratification addiction of today's world gets in the way. People have been convinced of quantity over quality. In general, people just don't care anymore. Nothing matters to anyone. No one has any personal standards. Nobody THINKS.

Nobody is saying you have to be Mozart, nobody is saying you have to play like Duke Ellington. What I'm saying is you should at least try. You should care enough to try. You should have some standards.

You can install the latest version alongside with the pre-otimized one (1.0.xxx) and compare them side by side. Would you do this for us? If there is such a thing, it would be good if you demonstrate this, maybe Reveal Sound will make selectable quality modes then.

I didn't know the pre optimized was still available. I'll go look into it. I have long been an advocate for higher quality modes in Spire fro people who give a hoot about the lazy ass EDM presets.

I'm not sure you can download it now from reveal sound, but didn't you back up your old downloads? I'm sure I must have some backups, I could send you an old dll if you don't have one.
