Hi:
I recently purchased Sample Tank 3. Sample Tank 3 has great sounds but it is a real resource hog.

I am new to the virtual instrument world and was wondering if there are products available that are of the same quality as Sample Tank but less demanding on computer resources.

Regards,

So, you want a ROMpler... have you considered getting more RAM?

+1

Cheaper than buying new shinny. :tu:

So you are basically using your laptops on-board audio card probably with ASIO4ALL driver?

Yes, ASIO4All or the ASIO drivers that work with the IK Multimedia Stealth Pedal.

Ah ok, so that is your audio interface. :tu:

What is again the problem with ST3, memory or CPU consumption?

How low buffer settings you use when you are recording and when mixing?

Which DAW do you use?

Is that dual core processor you have?

ST2 works fine and I can load several instruments at once.
But ST3 is another story, it loads down by CPU (quad core) with only one instrument loaded with lots of hisses and pops.

I use a buffer setting of 256 with Reaper or Usine Hollyhock.

I have quad core processor system with 16 G of RAM.

Yeah, guess it's ST3 hogging. :tu:

Just had a look at cpu benchmarks, it's like you got yourself intel dual core there, intel quad cores score double. :?

To answer actual topic now, give this a spin :tu:

Its all the effects that ST3 loads, up to 5 on every single instrument. Try turning various ones off to see which ones drop your CPU load.

As to better option than ST3 and the IKM eco-system, my opinion is that going with Kontakt and the Ni eco-system is ultimately a better way to go. ST3 is mostly closed and 3rd party instruments are more rare and likely much poorer quality. Kontakt has an extraordinary number of high end 3rd party instruments. And a huge number of freebies ranging from low-end up to some surprisingly good ones.

Hi:
I downloaded the demo for Xpansion 2 and so far I have been impressed with its performance.
Very good sounds and low CPU usage.

Any other products on the market with this performance?(Synth or ROMpler)

I'm afraid in ROMpler land, not that much, but gonna drop few names:

Kinda oldie:

You need dongle to demo it:
http://www.kvraudio.com/product/halion- ... -steinberg

Free one, be sure to check this out:
http://www.kvraudio.com/product/orion-s ... plescience

There's no demo for this unfortunately, so just throwing in the bunch

On synth side, be sure to give Hive a spin:

Good old Sylenth too:

Also there's free Synth1 with huge amount of presets and ultra low CPU usage, be sure to check that too:

I would suggest you to start with this freeware stuff:
1. Synth1
2. Dune BE (the difference between standard Dune 1 and BE is that BE version doesn't have effects, it can be downloaded from studiodrive.be, registration needed http://www.studiodrive.de/?t=plugin_det ... 8&cat=&os=)
3. Tyrell N6, Zebralette
4. Zampler (http://www.zampler.de).
5. Sonatina (http://sso.mattiaswestlund.net). You need SFZ player for this, like Sforzando (https://www.plogue.com/products/sforzando/)
Note that Zampler is also SFZ player, but I had several times problems with opening some libraries with it, so it's good to have another option.

Effects:
1. Variety of Sound
2. Luftikus EQ
3. SonEQ EQ (http://sonimus.com/products/soneq/)
4. Tal Reverb-4 (https://tal-software.com/products/tal-reverb-4) Also, Tal's free vsti's are awesome, check them out.
5. Amplio (http://www.vstzone.sk/#amplio).

I could ad 50+ more things easily, but even this will keep you busy for weeks. Basically, I just named some "essentials".

Thanks for the help.
