Synths/Keyboards that are not yet sampled?

What vintage gear is out there that is not yet sampled, and provided as sample libs?
Would be cool if somebody could make a sample lib of this Intellivision "synth" - Must be great for some 8 bit sounds This is the kind of thing that make UVI Toy Museum interesting, but reading the manual, can't find it included there.

If you haven't looked there are 40,000 synth samples here, some might be never before sampled synths...

One non-synth keyboard that I'd love to see sampled is that one based on Leonardo da Vinci's drawings which is basically a piano-sized polyphonic hurdy-gurdy. And it's in the same city as me.

The "synth" in there is just the bog standard AY-3-8914 in the Intellivision itself (the kb is just a controller) (aka AY-3-8910 with reg swap) PSG that was used in countless arcade boards, home consoles and computers. 3 independent square (not pulse) that you can mix with a LFSR noise and a very crude AR envelope generator. So by itself is not exciting.Numanoid wrote:Would be cool if somebody could make a sample lib of this Intellivision "synth" - Must be great for some 8 bit sounds This is the kind of thing that make UVI Toy Museum interesting, but reading the manual, can't find it included there.
Only with the use of CPU modulation can you do something cool with that (arps, env tricks). We do plenty of those in chipsounds. But none of that in the Intellivision soft Check out what was done on ATARI ST for more interesting uses of a compatible chip the YM2149F...
EDIT the ECS (separate computer peripheral requires to hook the keyboard), has another AY in it ... which boosts the poly from 3 square waves to 6

Doesnt really matter imho if a synth has been sampled, or not, because you could do it again from the start, and still, for most analog, early fm, etc synths, barely succeed in capturing just a bit of the original global playing feeling.( except for pure sample based synths, wich would however be forbidden for copyright matters ...)

Yeah, checking some specs I trust the sound of the intellivision will be proper lo-fi, but that is also some of the charm.davidv@plogue wrote:The "synth" in there is just the bog standard AY-3-8914 in the Intellivision itself (the kb is just a controller) (aka AY-3-8910 with reg swap) PSG that was used in countless arcade boards, home consoles and computers. 3 independent square (not pulse) that you can mix with a LFSR noise and a very crude AR envelope generator.
Vic-20 is rather powerful compared to it
Intellivision II:
-CPU speed: 1 MHz
-ROM: 4 KB
-RAM: 2 KB
Commodore Vic-20:
-CPU speed 1 MhZ
-ROM: 20 KB
-RAM: 5 KB
On another note, the c64 SID chip has got lot of attention, but what about the sound chip in Apple II, has it got a sound of it's own worth to dig up again?: "Ensoniq ES5503 DOC 8-bit sample-based sound chip, 32-channels, stereo"

The Apple II didn't have a proper sound chip by default, only a beeper speaker.Numanoid wrote: On another note, the c64 SID chip has got lot of attention, but what about the sound chip in Apple II, has it got a sound of it's own worth to dig up again?: "Ensoniq ES5503 DOC 8-bit sample-based sound chip, 32-channels, stereo"
The Apple IIGS however (yeah I'm a nerd) had an Ensoniq DOC in it, which as you know powers the ESQ1, the SQ80, and the Mirage as well, and the DOC is philosophically the SID's children.

I have a 1-bit speaker beeper sample library coming soon. It will be a plugin and the sound will come from the ZX Spectrum 48k computer. I'm still working on making the plugin versatile, which is not easy considering the source material!Numanoid wrote:What vintage gear is out there that is not yet sampled, and provided as sample libs?

Really good for that C64/8 bit chip tune sound and it can load in new programs and even a 8 bit synth based on the ARP Odyssey .
The connection cable has to be bought as a separate item(very reasonable price) and he has now made overlays for each new program that is available.
It also has a analogue bass boost control which beefs things up.

If you have Iris2, look in Synthesizers/ Samples/ Andromeda.V0RT3X wrote:I'd like to see an andromeda A6 sample library.
My vote is for a really playable Buchla. It would sell like crazy.
