On the other hand, before the times of free GB wise cloud storage, and companies providing any of their software installers online to download, you had to keep hold of your installation media too. Just imagine they had all their CD's or DVD coming with copy protection, before providing the stuff online. Basically, what someone who wants all that stuff freely downloadable from the archive is asking to re-arrange all the infrastructure of Distribution the company offers, and also asks the company to have GB's, TB's of traffic available for free. Again, i don't think it's asked too much to keep hold of your installation media. Anyway, there seems to be consent about that anyway, so.

There is no way Steinberg don't have a copy of that older software, they just don't care enough to help you out. Someone at that company has it.

I'd try again with them and maybe you'll get a more sympathetic rep.

Yep, Steinberg HAS every Cubase version, and software. It is NOTHING to have that available. Most would even be willing to PAY a fee to get something they've lost. And in all fairness, I think there should be a fee for Steinbergs troubles.

Dude, just upgrade, or purchase the latest version and forget about it. Cubase 5 Essential is dead. It also might have served you well, to take better care of your discs. I can't stress enough the importance of taking care of, and backing up the software that you have purchased a license to use.

Please check some comparison with Cubase Artist 8:
1.Number of audio tracks - 64
2.Number for instrument tracks - 32
3.Group channels - 32
4.................
5................

Cubase 5 Essential:
1.Number of audio tracks - unlimited
2.Number for instrument tracks - unlimited
3.Group channels - 256
4.................
5................

Edit:

Already have Cubase 8 PRO

Cubase 5 Essential is for my 3rd computer.

That makes no sense though, because you would just install Cubase 8 Pro then on the third computer unless you're trying to use all of them at the same time which means... well good luck in whatever it is you're trying to make happen there man.

This may be besides the point of the OP...

I would assume having Cubase 8 Pro & Cubase 5 Essential is to be able to run 2 computers at the same time to run VST System Link.

If just for the other machine in another location, one can always swap the USB license keys... or if in the same room a USB A/B switch to toggle back & forth.

Last year I was told by a Steinberg mod, that if I bought Cubase 8 Pro, I could simply ask for them to provide any 'lesser' version than 8, and the license key would run any lesser version. Maybe things have changed.
But don't they still offer SX3 as a download to transfer older VST projects to .CPR? If so, the Cubase 5 Essentials license may run SX3? Dunno, just bring that up. On the other hand, you can grab your ankles & pay Steinbergs ransom :D

You are right man :tu:
But you can also check Waves SoundGrid technology. You can connect two DAWs via LAN using SoundGrid Studio application. Unfortunately you must to have DigiGrid IO hardware!

In addition I can generate a new ideas on older Cubase version and import them into latest Cubase versions :D

It may run Cubase SE3 license. Unfortunately SX3/SL3/SE3 are only for PowerPPC MACs

I don't know where you got that, I installed and ran SX2 on my Mac Pro 1.4, intel mac. You may run into an issue at OSX 10.9 Mavericks, which may have to do with (lack of) Rosetta.

So all versions before Cubase 4 are Power PPC only.

Officially Mac OS X 10.7+ excludes support for Rosetta.
Do you know how to run Rosetta on OSX 10.9?

No. Earlier than Cubase 4 = Power PPC only" does not follow "Cubase 4 is the first Cubase for Intel Mac". It simply means that Cubase 4 is the first version coded for Intel Mac.* I used Cubase SX2 on an Intel Mac, Mac Pro 4.1. The article you linked to reports: "I installed the full Cubase 4 side-by-side with SX3 on my Windows laptop, and the process was fairly painless." within the context of 'on Intel Mac'. (*: I suppose Cubase SX works as 'Universal Binary'.) But, I used SX2 under Leopard, OSX 10.5. Snow Leopard did not include Rosetta in the OS iirc.

I have no experience with Mavericks, and don't expect to. I believe Rosetta is impossible for 10.9

So even in case if an installation CD was damaged I'll lose my rights for a license?
If you have the license you should be able to keep using the software, unfortunately since we moved to our new HQ we trashed all the obsolete media including all the Cubase Essential 5 DVDs, but you can download it from our FTP and keep using it on a supported operating system.
