Afaik that's been possible since 1.0. Here's how...

1. Load a plugin.
2. Rename the device.
3. Drag the preset to the browser. Name the preset if you want. (otherwise the preset takes the track name)

Now whenever you drag in that preset the name you gave the device always persists. See the image below. You could always organize and rename your plugs that way with presets... like below instead of it always saying "Reacomp-Standalone" that plug just says ReaComp when I drag that preset in. The custom name is part of the preset xml data. You can organize / source those preset files on the file system and only ever see your custom names.

Be aware that the name of the literal preset is not the same as the name of the device unless you change it like I did above. The device name is in the preset file data. If that's all you ever wanted, set it up that way.

Question presonus has a lot of stuff. Did they have an investment company fund them?

I just picked up a keyboard for Studio One for cheap. Does anyone have any experience with these? It was really an impulse buy, but it seemed like a deal.

So you tried it out and it doesn't include this feature? I haven't upgraded yet due to all the reports of crashes with some iLok2 plugins I use (Slate and Kush), but was hoping that plugin renaming is allowed and just wasn't listed. Otherwise: huge miss. That would be the ONLY feature I would have wanted in a plugin manager (I never got the allow folder requests when you can just create folders on your HD and have S1 use that).
I tried looking for a rename option, can't find any.
There is only one solution to this, wich is the old favourite plugin method which i use.

Create new folder on your HDD, open it File tab, locate the new folder with S1 Browser and add a new tab for it.
Drag preset from arrange to the new tab, rename plugin name to taste... I thinks i still better since allows the user to costumize plugin structure but don't allow plugin thumbanail since we are working under "File" tab instead the effect tab.

I suggest to store default settings file and put this folder and Studio One preset folder in Documents (or wherever you want still works).

And.... they sent me an email stating they couldn't complete the order, they only have 5 broken units, and would I like to upgrade to the backlit version. I said no thanks and have moved on.

It seems very nice keyboard. Shame they don't have it at that price. I've searched here in NZ online shops but couldn't find anything for S1. However, I found stickers from US online shop for $6 but with the delivery to NZ it costs about NZD 60  So I canceled the idea.

Yeah, stickers wouldn't work for me. But I don't think I really need the keyboard, it was just a good deal.

What I did just discover today is the Studio One iPad app, it's pretty slick, next time I need to record voice or guitar I'll definitely use it to get myself away from the monitor and get as comfortable as possible. I've tried Android-based control apps but none were very coherent, you cannot beat the integration of Presonus making their own app. I just wish they had it on Android, the iPad has competition for its affections so I may not get it away from the family when I want it. Plus all I really want is to be able to select a track, arm it, record it, and get back to my desk, and would rather have a phone app for that anyway. But the iPad app is slick.

I don't have iPad, so I really don't know how the integration is done.

I still like the Keyboard shortcuts best and to be honest, yes, stickers or specific illustrated Keyboard are not that needed. I've got used to Cubase shortcuts more than any DAW, so S1 feels very comfortable for me. I even think that other S1 shortcuts became better (easier) than Cubase.

From the best shortcuts I have experienced as well is in Reason. But the '?' button in S1 showing the shortcuts panel is a very clever and smart idea. All these things just keep me stick to S1 more and more ;)

Anyway, i might order FaderPort soon :)
