Cheers Dave. Is TOTP back on the telly yet? I lost interest in chart music when it was pulled (actually it was probably before they pulled it).

Lots of people told me the newer (Daniel Craig) Bond's were really good, so I watched Casino Royal ... it's terrible IMHO.

Might be hard, I think the Beeb may have run out of DJ's not being done for 'historical abuse'.

I like the Craig Bond's, but the last one, Skyfall, was pretty silly IMO. Hope Spectre is better.

Btw, wanna add "The world is not enough" to the themes which have already been mentioned (and which are all good). I really liked that one.

It depends what you want out of bond I guess. The Craig films are much closer to the original 007 book character. If you want campy and light hearted then I guess pre-Craig will be much more to ones taste.

TOTP's is long dead, tho every now and again its rumoured to be coming back... the 'charts' are all on cable/sky now.... Rock Top 20, Dance Top 20 etc. Videos on loop all day. Luckily i dont have those channels.

As for Bond, CR was quite good but the last two were poor. Not very "Bondlike" at all.

I don't want campy or lighthearted ... I liked the original Sean Connory movies.

The latest Bond isn't even based on a Fleming book. I haven't seen it, or heard the soundtrack, but I did hear a Radio 4 interview with the writer.

A lot of Bond movies bearing names of Fleming's stories aren't actually based on those stories.

Its the only Bond Theme to get to #1..... but it got to #1 selling less copies than any of the others.
Worse than the Chris Cornell one?

It's up there for sure.

What I wonder is why they haven't come knocking on Goldfrapp's door?

Well, I was expecting bad electro-pop, but it's surprisingly minimalistic and Bond-ish. But forgettable and weak unfortunately, for a Bond theme. The orchestra has more character than Smith's post-male vocals, save for the end's touch of soul. Daniel Craig giving old Sean Connery-vibes was the best thing about the music video really. The beige suit is a nice twist on the Gary Grant-grey. Actually, Craig shouldn't have made it in the video at all. He's like a canadian dry ale in a Coke-commercial, in how he outshines Smith's sensitivity with his masculinity and simple style.

Still miles above most pop music today though. However, the next artist should be someone well above that, (without an orchestra, sorry Sam.) Björk should finally do the next Bond-tune. Nothing wrong with Adele really. Skyfall was good, if not Shirley Bassey. Or maybe Arctic Monkeys? That hasn't been done yet...

Since we're at it, I'm gonna throw in my two cents and just say that the 80s Bond-themes are my favorites. Ain't nobody gonna do it better than Carly Simon... Even Roger called it his favorite. Actually all the female artists' tunes from that era seem to be very under-appreciated, especially Knights' License to Kill.
The Duran Duran-one is quite good too. I just prefer A-Ha's Living Daylights as the best Bond-rock-tune.

Depends on which chart- Duran Duran's 'A View to a Kill' hit number 1 in several countries, including USA.

It's my favorite Bond tune. (But also one of the most ridiculous Bond films.)
