Anyone using Catanya

Hi
Just wondering if there are any Catanya experts out there? I'm trying out the demo and have a couple of questions as I can't find a manual. Got it all installed and working but can't make any of the patterns last longer than 16 beats, though it should go up to 32. Perhaps this is just the demo?
Also all the patterns seem to follow a generic path where they go up in tone for 8 bars then start again. I can't see any settings to change this.
I'd like to buy it, but need these questions answered.
Thanks
F

In the top right corner (just below the 7Aliens logo) you will set the loop start and end points. Loop end does go to 32 beats, at least in the full version. I assume the demo will do this as well.
You will find patterns in the "Browser" (left side). The patterns play by the notes you have set up in your clip - so if you create a triad C6-C7, the notes will be higher tone than C2-C3. Set up varies by DAW so you should visit the main page (link below) to understand how to set up your DAW with Catanya.

Scroll down under "Usage" on the left to choose your DAW.
While there visit FAQ's for a better understanding of Catanya. It seems the author felt a user should have a basic understanding of how sequencers work, since he really never gave good instructions and has basically disappeared.
But once you get the hang of things it's pretty easy.

It's a good program but there are several such good sequencers out there today. Good luck!
Cheers!

It will cost me $30 to upgrade to the 64 bit version, that kind of makes me grumble. The developer isn't actively improving the product, I personally want a loop from song position option, it restarts whenever you change chords right now. Catanya is nifty and IMO one of the better designs for pattern based arps, just it needs more development to refine it a bit to justify the price IMO.

I'd try Nora. For 4€ more you still can use it as Catanya, but with the advantage that it has better user interface, and lots of options to customize your work (optionally showed).

Thanks for the suggestion, Nora 2 seems great. I would rather pay $25 more than to upgrade Catanya to just function like it always has. Nora looks like the superior choice.kyodeejay wrote:I'd try Nora. Nora is the better choice. Much more feature rich and useful. And development continues. The staff are responsive and open to user input.
@BasariStudios - Having used Nora I don't think you will find Catanya adding anything to your arsenal.
Cheers!

I'm with dsan. Owned Catanya long ago and though it was a valuable tool for me I now would always choose Nora (which I did).
Somehow I understand 7Aliens to not further develop Catanya facing this mighty competitor. They're already 'lightyears' in front. (2ct)

7Aliens should remarket Catanya @ $15 and it would be in everyone's VST directory. It really seems obvious that they don't plan to add more features, so that is the only way I think they could compete.

Oh man am I sold on this. Using it with a nice sampled guitar it can sound just lovely.
Just for a reality check, are there any other similar triad-powered arps on the market I may be overlooking? This same Catanya-esq way of creating patterns? I missed Nora, perhaps I'm missing something else as well.

Some of the most popular are Cthulhu, Kirnu Cream, Blue Arp, but it may be best to try the KVR database search tool.
One that I don't think is as well known is this from mucoder:

Likely you already know as many as the rest of us. You been around a while
Is strange how you missed Nora though
Cheers!

While you are at it, try Monoplugs' B-Step - cross platform and iOS; really different UI from all the above.

Yeah, I have Cthulu, Kirnu, Blue Arp, but Catanya and Nora work in a specific way. I just found the setting in Nora to change it from 3x3 to different variations like 6x1 or whatever, so that's really cool, a limitation of Catanya is that it only takes triad chords, so with Nora chords can be more harmonically complex. Anyhow, it will be my next plugin purchase I think. And I'm wondering how I messed it.dsan@mail.com wrote:Some of the most popular are Cthulhu, Kirnu Cream, Blue Arp, but it may be best to try the KVR database search tool.

The only other one that does the same sort of grid triad thing is Timecore, though it is kind of buggy, timing seems soft:

Hello braj,
any idea where to get timecore ? It looks very interesting but the link you send is dead, all links in kvr are dead (nothing to find from jtones) and could not find it with a google search. Looks very interesting, especially cause of lots of presets it seems.
If someone else noes something about it....
Kind regards,
Richard
