Is there a VST that can do this? If not, can I send midi from another DAW into Ableton? What DAW has that feature & work on mac?

I'm not sure what the end result is that you're going for... Are you looking to control a multi-timbral VSTi (like Korg M1, Omnisphere, etc) and need to route multiple channels to it? Are you trying to send an Expressive Midi signal ( from say a Linnstrument, etc) to a suitable Expressive Midi responsive VSTi like Bazille?

If you mean a single track in Ableton, you can load and route the VSTs inside a chainer/modular host, like Image-Line's minihost:

There are others like VstBoard, VSTforx, energyxt, Mux, Bidule, etc.. each one has something appealing besides just hosting.

I believe on Mac you can route MIDI between apps (including Live), in Windows you gotta install something like loopmidi.

It's not clear (at least to me) what specifically you want to do

You might have to look in to using instrument racks and external instrument inside live, but it's not very clear what you wanna do.

I read it as him wanting to see midi notes (perhaps ghost notes) from other tracks alongside midi notes from the track he is working on.

I expect most DAWs can do this - can Ableton?
Sonar Platinum, Ignite and Ableton Live 9 DAWS
AIR Hybrid 3, Synthmaster, Z3ta+2, Addictive Drums 2, True Piano Amber, Rapture, Dim Pro, BFD Eco, AAS Strum, Addictive Keys, Synth 1 VSTs
Nektar LX61, Korg MicroKey and Akai Pro LPD8 Pad
