Hi Everyone,
I am thinking about replacing the preamp tubes in my new Laney IRT Pulse, as they seem very noisy. Could someone recommend high-gain, quality tubes for this purpose (I need two).
Thanks!

I don't think there's anything better than Telefunken 12AX7 smooth long plate, for overall low noise and smooth sound (yeah..), especially when overdriving. Unfortunately it seems like they're way overpriced nowadays, but if you can find decent priced old stock, get that. Otherwise, some Sovtek and Mullard are definitely good as far as noise goes, at least.bharris22 wrote:I am thinking about replacing the preamp tubes in my new Laney IRT Pulse, as they seem very noisy. Just tried a TAD RT008 ECC83 WA and I'm satisfied for the good value for money.
Better than the Soldano branded 12AX7 which was noisy and harsh for my taste...

I think Miniwatt ones or JJ are good if you want it bright and guitar oriented.

+1 for Mullard.
Great sounding crunch...
Put them in a 5150 to tame the Red channel a bit.
Worked perfect...

This is where I went too when I wanted to upgrade the tubes in my ART Digital MPA tube preamp. I bought these same tubes because I think they have the best gain vs noise characteristics. For a few extra bucks, they'll even find send you a hand-matched pair, which is what I wanted for my dual channel preamp.VariKusBrainZ wrote:http://www.thetubestore.com/Resources/P ... be-Reviews
