AH, man...this synth can sound just beautiful! But- uhm- has anyone yet noticed how very, very awesome it can simulate a SID (C=64)? It's fantastic, hahaha! Yes, yes, I know, I know... I just can't help it!
Anyway, I've got some crazy stuff going already, but I keep fighting myself to just stay true to myself, rather than to try and please the gang we are here by doing some super loud dubstep or trance, hehe... I noticed that it's actually, uhm... the principles of these genres pretty quickly provide a great deal of energy and I can understand the temptation. But I'm not cut out for it, not with my heart, really. It's interesting, though. Maybe one day I'll do one of those, even if it's really a lot of noodling around with an ever hungry bag of tricks and licks.
There will be some SID flashbacks, though, I'm pretty sure I won't be able to resist!
Really a great synth. I won't start a wishlist...

That sounds both cool and authentic. Impressive stuff!Taron wrote:Uh, hahaha, here, I made you an example:

Indeed a cool little synth. It's a bit dull sounding right out of the box, but add a little reverb and it sounds pretty juicy and is incredibly versatile for such a tiny thing.

So, I got inspired to check out some modern C=64 demos and songs and if I had managed to be totally authentic, you wouldn't have believed it was, haha. They've managed to do a 4 track 8bit sample playback + 2 standard sound channels.
However, even in the classic spirit only there are a few wicked things I don't think I could make the charlatan simulate. :shrugs: ...upside: I probably wouldn't want to, if I could!
But, honestly, I've already done a few other tests and this synth sounds fantastic! Very full and rich. My drum section has some of the most pleasant high percussion (hihats, cymbals) I've managed to create, yet. It's just fun to make sounds, because of the limitations, but I really wished you could at least control the noise with an envelope, even if it was just choosing 1 or 2. Filters can help a little.
Anyway, great, great stuff! Should become a pretty collection from everybody by the end of the month!

Sounds pretty much like a sine, but doesnt it also have some harmonics due to the triangle shape? I didnt notice a difference when eliminating either oscillator.ere2learn wrote:Pretty easy to get a sine without a filter in Charlatan, patch below

Hey TB4C, welcome to the gang!
Yeah, this one is a good one, plus it's very efficient and does not use too much processing power. Guess that makes it a perfect choice for you.
Well, if you want to get a win, watch which genre I pick and then avoid it like hell!
Just do what you'd love to do!
Good luck and can't wait to hear what you'll come up with.

This is adding osc 1 volume from min to max, very subtle difference, but as you can see more sine than tri
