Our double bass hit 2000 downloads in less than a month, I bet the appeal of these will be more niche but that's all right. They were fun to make and I'm definitely going to use Blackheart a lot.

Blackheart demo... I was using a bit of the "Hansel and Gretel" opera in a cover of "Safety Dance", and turned it into this demo. Just a bunch of instances of Sforzando all with Blackheart, no external effects, a couple of the internal parameters automated.

There are a few metal/hardcore vocal libraries out there - Soundiron's Voices Of Rage and Precision Sound's Demonic Voices From Hell. Neither has phonemes, though, they're complete phrases and words, and I think Demonic Voices From Hell is male only.

There's also Maiko Haikane for UTAU, which uses the voice of Maika from Dazzle Vision so it's female but screaming not growling, and possibly some other UTAU voicebanks with growl which are not widely used. We've also recorded some raw materials for making an UTAU voicebank, will see how that works... UTAU is kind of another world of its own.

I should do a demo video for Youtube, show how the piano roll for a few words looks, also mess around with shifting the formants in RoVee. Shifting the formants upwards actually gives you a black metal vocal.

Wow. I'll take a look at that this evening, but there's no real fancy mapping in the SFZ version so it shouldn't be too hard to migrate it to Kontakt. Which samples did you use? The phonemes?

The "dialogue" mapping is basically monophonic - pressing a note mutes the previous. The "vocals" mapping is polyphonic so you can fine-tune the overlapping of sounds and the attack time is 0 if there's no other note currently being played, but something slightly longer, like 0.15 or 0.25 seconds, if there's another note already.

The release times are longer for vowels and dipthongs than for consonants, too. That seems to make things sound slightly smoother, but I'm not sure if it makes a real difference.

This was, like me, quick and dirty. Its the consonants in alphabetical order on the lower keyswitches and the vowels on the upper keyswitches. Just the first version of each, no round robins. Each sound mapped across 4 octaves, 2 up and 2 down.

It's great to see that it's generating a good amount of interest. Granted, the total download numbers are not very high compared to something more normal, like our double bass, but still, it's quite encouraging.

If anybody uses this in an actual track, I'd be very very curious. We can embed a Soundcloud or Youtube link in our site, too.

Wow, that's totally different, then. I didn't even bother with pitch, so there are no keyswitches, every sound gets its own note, and is played back at the original pitch it was recorded at (unless you apply pitch bend).

So, you've added pitch and the ability to play melodies, at the expense of needing to hit a keyswitch and a note for every sound. Play some minor chords for the ultimate in scary "oooo" choirs?

Blackheart's turning out to be quite useful - there are seven instances in this track (plus one Ironface, two Emilyguitar, Kairatune, two 3xOsc, T-Force Alpha Plus, Dune BE and Harmor). One makes percussive thumps, two different droning strings, one is the "meow" lead, one tries to be an accordion, one is high-pitched plucks, one low bass plucks.
