Consider the following idea (which has been verified shorter than 141 characters using a device known to me as twitter.com):

"Vocal ducking: Take FFT of voice recording; average over frames; high values indicate importance; duck these frequencies first; end program."

Can anybody here take that idea here and produce working sample code (VST on any of Mac,Windows,Linux will do, LV2 on Linux is preferable, but if all else fails, simply a function that takes two pointers to two arrays of floats, and a number of samples, and a pointer to an output array, may assume all memory is allocated before, and just do the maths) can anybody here on kvraudio do even that. Failing that, forget the FFT bit.
