I really like my Eddie Durham JX17 (L5 body) So much so I'm getting another Eddie Durham
This time out it's a JX16 (ES 175)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVUgekAwmDo
It's the closest to truth (50's/60's) ES-175 in the sub 1K market. The bass response is warm and fat without getting tubby (loar, samick) or sacrificing the high end (epi)
The gold paint job is gaudy as hell but I guess one has to make a bit of sacrifice when buying a 300 guitar.

I'm such a sucker, I just picked this up ...
I'm going to have this neck scalloped and put it on with a Black Floyd ... Then put all black hardware and some Bare Nuckles.
Should be an interesting and unique axe.

No, I guess the newer American Deluxes have a slightly beveled edge on the top of the heal. I've never played one. So, I don't know how much difference it makes. But I think these things are American Standards. I have an actual 57 strat with the humongous block heal. I doubt the heal will bother me much.hibidy wrote:Yes

This is the sandblast heal
This is a deluxe heal
But, even some of the really expensive signature series have the old fashioned squared heal still. I wonder how much difference it really makes if they haven't adopted it across all the ranges. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

but... surely: the longer you are around guitars, the less you get
attached to any particular one? they come and they go, and you'll
play any old piece of cr*p? (for argument's, sake. i don't get attached
to guitars in the same way as electronic instruments)

Although it depends, I am actually the opposite. I'm not overly attached to the modular I've build or any of the synths I have. And, I don't drift to one as opposed to another. However with guitars, I find myself coming back to the strat time and again. I have some very nice guitars, including a spectacular PRS private stock. There's just something about the strat. It also has personal attachment as it was purchased by my father when he was young. So, "attachment" is an odd discussion point.mztk wrote:but... surely: the longer you are around guitars, the less you get

May I ask why "attachment" is germane to this discussion though?

well, it's an observation i'd made about myself, really.
and, in my inept way, i'll play anything i have to hand.
i mentioned a trash streetfind i'd fixed up a bit, and that
got nicked while i had my back turned - it actually came
*back* the other day(so even the thief didn't want it...)
so i was able to gift it whence it had been intended, and
i still found it good to sit down and work stuff out on, and
it's obviously been played a lot - so i guess my mentality
is 'another one will show up'. which is healthy(for me).
whereas my attitude, even to an fx unit is..toxic.
