Korg just gets better & better :D

Finally an ms20 module.... if its priced right it will do really well...

Post

Apparently it will have some modiciations such as:

Switch for OSC Sync
Switch for OSC FM
Switch for rev1/rev2 filter design selection.

And then of course more patch points.

Neat. I keep thinking I need at least one real analog synth, but I don't know why. MS-20 keeps getting my attention. But then I would want things to hook it up to, and I'd get lost in that whole analog acquisition craving. I can't even afford Korg's little analog toy synths, let alone an actual MS-20.

I like polyphony, avoiding zipper noise in filters isn't that important, and I have the Legacy controller for the physical stuff to play with... So I keep telling myself...

Korg makes today a really interesting time to have money to spend on synth toys. Too bad I have none.

ordered mine : )

with all the improvements and (for me) removal of the keybed - this is the reissue, and maybe even ms20, to own imo. nice and big too. only niggle is it would be nice if the jacks were 1/8 inch to play nice with euromodularcentric setups. i guess or hope that's an easy mod if you are so inclined.

pricey but a safe investment i feel as i'm not sure what else they would likely add to another ms20 reissue. i suspect we'll see some ms20 kits & minis on the used market pretty soon, if not right now, to fund upgrades to this model.

MS-20M looks & sounds killer (although this stuff is not usually my cup of tea), but the price... holy :( I hope they do come to their senses with a more down to Earth version (price-wise).

It's not the price that puts me off but the fact that it's a kit, how much electronics expertise would you need to put it together? I barely know how to use a soldering iron.

Well apparently you don't have to solder anything, just connect the board, the main components into slots (like on a PC motherboard) and get ready to screw... well, lots of screws on :) Plus the knob caps.

It is connect and screw only. Saves them assembly time.

barely knowing how to use a soldering iron actually makes you overqualified : )
it comes with everything you need to assemble it in the box, which is a wrench.. though yes there's some screws involved and I'm not sure if a mini screw driver is also included. but the wrench certainly is.

it is seriously easy to put together. no testing with oscilloscopes etc required. just put parts together and wrench some nuts, screw some screws. if delivering these full size re-issues in this kit form shaves a 100 euro off the price (or more ? or even less) i'm all for it.

according to some NAMM clips included in my post above, they're not expecting these to ship en masse for about 3 months. though some retailers are letting you order now, beause of the limited supply I assume. I expect these will sell out in pre-orders alone, even though it's pricey.

Pricey? Our definition of pricey is not the same :P

also curious about the fourteen jack points filled with plastic plugs at the bottom of the unit, to the left of the jack bay.

if you check the official promo vid (first youtube clip in the list i posted), you can see at about 1 minute that the first nine of the plastic plugs are larger - presumably 1/4 inch, and then the remaining five are smaller - presumably 1/8 inch.

handy for mods, or making more junction/multipliers ?

nice that they put the holes there though and also plugged them up : )
