In the world of hardware equalizers, very few can boast such high praise and almost universal growing popularity.
In the software world, the choices for tools seems endless. Only a select handful of developers are inspired by such coveted gear and able to reach the excellence in realistic digital emulation.
Amber is the perfect compliment to Magenta, just as in the world of hardware. First there was a great equalizer, and fueled from that an amazingly inspired piece of gear to compliment it.

My thoughts as well. I wish the names and descriptions weren't so cryptic. The Manley Massive Passive was more obvious and so was the Pultec but some of the others not so much. How am I supposed to figure out that Trinity = Altec console eq? It took me forever to find that out. Lol I also remember some guy in one of the forums saying it was an SSL and I was like wtf... haha.

I some of the developers start porting over their stuff to acqua. I love the acqua console and highly recommend all that cdsoundmaster stuff. That would be cool if AlexB ported over all those eqs and consoles. Love the Modern Logic Console and Modern Logic Eq.

Really want some acqua compressors. The Black Compressor I am sure will be awesome but hope we get more to the selection like SSL or something.

Big fan of giancarlo and friends since 2006 i think... anyways looking forward to this. But what is this i keep hearing about an 1176?

Also nebula plugs vs non nebula plugs are really scary. It makes hear how FLAT traditional vst's are.

Post

^^ 1176 comp you're hearing about is probably this new, excellent one from Tim Petherick:

No, the Black Comp (1176) I was referring and that is getting a lot of buzz to is the upcoming release from Acustica. See here. It will be a fully functional 1176 with its own dedicated GUI in the acqua format. The GUI looks slick and is quite true to the 1176 hardware.

AC222 - my answer was to prene (hence the ^^).

Though the Black Comp looks interesting - it will be good to see how it compares to TP's U76's compressor for Acustica Audio's Nebula.

O M G!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOW.

I own the cla and ik version. Now I have to get this one.

Don't underestimate the awesomeness of this Avalon modeled EQ.

It is just ridiculously good. Amber + Magenta EQ makes a seriously powerful combination. I could probably retire with just these two and a good compressor. :)

Acustica Audio have really stepped it up with their latest releases. You've never heard anything like this in software before.

Anybody want to post some high quality audio for me to mangle with it? :D

@bmanic - quite a claim: 'You've never heard anything like this in software before' ;)

Now I'm intrigued to see you test this!

What audio files would you like?

I can offer you,via Soundcloud, a choice of some original (by me and my friend) reggae guitar / bass tracks (136BPM),
A drum stem (76BPM),
And an individual hi hat / individual kick and snare tracks (78BPM) at 24 bit stereo wav,

136BPM files are approx 4MB downloads each.
76 BPM file is approx 24MB.
78 BPM files are approx 7MB each.

All downloadable from the main soundcloud links.

Nothing too exciting - it was for a couple of tracks that never made the final cut - but hopefully good enough for your mangling purposes (or indeed anyone else who wants some free 'private' music!).

:D

Sorry boss. Duly noted. Must have misunderstood on my end. Hope I didn't come across as an arse. Sometimes it's tough deciphering tones in writing. Rock on! :phones:

NIce posts bmanic as usual. As a revered poster, I would love to hear your thoughts on the Magenta you mentioned. Thing is that I have alwauys been curious about the Massive Passive eqs but I can never quite find a place for it. When it comes to mastering, If I want to boost highs, I prefer something like a Millennia NSEQ-2 solid state (stock or Forsell mod) or Sontec. And for manipulating mids, I like GML and possibly an API 550 for something more aggressive For tracks, I really like boosting Neve eqs in the mids for guitar and Pultec for everything else in both the mids and lows.

So when I try the Massive Passive, I can't quite find a place for it. It's been described as a Pultec on steroids, which aside from being a passive design, I don't quite understand. The Massive Passive seems less pillowy to me and heavy than the Pultec. I don't think that they sound that similar really. But when I want that kind of weighty sound, I go for Pultec. But it seems less neutral than a Millennia or GML to me when I want that and if I want something more aggressive in the mids I prefer API. So I'm not quite sure what the major appeal is for this classic mastering eq since I don't fancy it as much as others for specific tasks. Methinks I am overlooking something here since there can't be that many users that love the eq without it being great.

Post

No worries AC222 - actually your helpful posts in that other KVR thread contributed towards me buying Tim's U76 limiter!
(Absolute bargain, tbh).

Also a good post in the one just above this regarding EQ matters and models too.

Cheers.

From the demos of this eq i prefer its sound more from the Magenta.
I remember i really liked the Avalon samples in the Liquid Mix they sounded warm to me here this sampling its even more and more better..

well, it is inspired to a different hardware device. We are simply bringing different hardware models to the table. Magenta is a tube eq, amber is a discrete class A eq.
From what I can see, despite the big number of eq plugins, they are a based on VERY few models around. But a typical mastering or recording studio has many different ones, and each one is used for a different scope.

We are modeling also the preamp, so it is a strip channel. There is a very little harmonic distortion, but we didn't remove it. You could disable the preamp if you need just the eq effect.
