I was browsing through VAC's website and watched his demo of the Roland SH-2, and it sounded AMAZING. Any VSTi's, freeware or not, available that can make that sound? Here's the video of the sound I'm going for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwuHBZIpjk4 I figure I can make it in Z3ta+, but I want to know if there's already a VSTi for it.

I've always been a big fan of the early roland stuff... the SH-2 was the first analogue I ever played. I'd say that z3ta has a decent roland like sound, but you should also try the Togu Audio Line stuff.

Particularly the Tal-Bassline.

there were some SH-09 emulations out there. postdawn recently made one:

and I remember Richard Brooks made a pretty good one.
oh yeah, and there was the 3A made by Ricko:

those could get a sound pretty close, and they're free. good luck

Isn't XHip a great SH-09 emulation? Sounds pretty damn close to me.

This is Roland's new Plug-out plug.

Roland brought out a plugin of that synth but it's VST3 only for the PC users. That means nobody running Ableton Live on PC can use it. It's limited to mono

TAL - Togu Audio Line makes a nice SH synth. I think it might still be regarded as the closest emulation pf the SH-101 It's got some added features think it's poly too.
Cytomic The Drop has a great SH filter simulation.

D16 Lush is based on the SH synth but with a huge load of added features to make it a modern versatile synth.

Are the z3ta vintage waveforms modeled after real-world synths? Is ther a breakout anywhere?

I have no idea. It's been a while since I last used z3ta+.
I had an SH-2 while Diva was still in beta and did a lot of comparisons between the two. With Diva I could get sounds that were damn close to the SH-2, using the 2-Osc and Cascade models.

there was TC-Works mercury which at least looked like the sh-2 but I'm not so sure about the sound and it's been discontinued.

There is a link here in this thread from BlackWinny - he has a whole host of Kriminal VST's to download. The Krolar SX-2 is an excellent SH-2 emu and has a load of SH-2 preset patches in the download :)

I have just updated the link to my Depositfiles directory. Not a problem of copyright but many links have changed recently in Depositfiles (without any info to the owners).

So it is available again.
