Good advice, I should take the time to learn it properly...I might actually like it!robertszalapski wrote:@xalama qo: The large numer of presets is good if they are tagged well. Take a bit of time to learn about the tagging system, seriously.
hmmm, the Boz is actually well laid out IMO, but the stripes and shiny knobs and perspectived view just detract from the clarity of the layout IMO. I'll stick with Timeless 2robertszalapski wrote:The Boz Imperial Delay has a pretty clever UI IMO. Possibly the best delay UI I've seen. It gives a great high-level, producer's view of the effects in the delay while letting you get in and tweak the other stuff. Great for staying in the right mindset when mixing IMO.
2 plugins with realistic GUIs which are not fisheye-perspectived, and which I think look amazing are:

Don't think the UI/GUI is ever that much of a deal breaker if the sound that comes from it is good. True, some graphics and others which break the flow of usual programming may have the effect of turning it into a just a player. After being on KVR for awhile though, I've noticed the community base of the VI can kill it for me much more than looks, flow, price, etc.
I now try to stay away from elitist and short bus groups of owners. And I guess that makes me a snob in relationship to their snobbery.
It's like the buddhist that wants to distinguish themselves as a person trying to remove all distinction.
Trapped and owned by their own premise.
Snob? Who isn't?

i suppose if i wanted a gui like an early 80's hi-fi fm receiver, it might suit. one problem, like you say, is the weird angles which make absolutely no sense. also, there's so much wasted space (with unnecessarily large controls), forcing everything but the most basic control behind sub-menusxalama qo wrote:hmmm, the Boz is actually well laid out IMO, but the stripes and shiny knobs and perspectived view just detract from the clarity of the layout IMO. i think the d16 gui's are well-designed. the softube one is a bit over-egged. if they manage to provide ease of use with the graphics, then fair play. but pushing a ton of function behind menus JUST for a flashy front-end is placing too much importance in the G, at the expense of the UIAzura wrote:http://www.d16.pl/index.php?menu=212 and http://www.softube.com/index.php?id=fc Love that look!early 80's hi-fi fm receiver:

Well, I agree about the wasted space. However, I thought hiding the modules (and making the individual modules have presets) was clever and helps me focus on the right things.
MPowerSynth is the only other plugin of the top of my head that has presets for submodules. I wouldn't call it a great UI, however; it definitely has a few GUI issues that make it a bit slower/harder to work with than Massive or FM8. Love the randomization, though.

Me? I used to be all over the whole pseudo 3D hardware look that people seem to like. Now i'm all about the sound because thats whats really important in the end. If it sounds good and the interface is not too hard to get around in then I'll be all over it.

I cannot stand ugly UI's and unless something sounds exceptionally good, if it has an ugly UI, I will not use/buy it.

Yes I want Fabfilter UI's on everything from now on or I won't buy or use it. That's right.
Especially you Reaper GUI-less plugins that I occasionally flirt with. You bastards. You mind-sodomants.

I just watched a documentary on Netflix called "Objectified" and there's a short section on there on interface - but mostly it's about the concept of design in general. Many famous industrial designers that are alive today are interviewed on the show, and it's quite interesting to hear common threads of their descriptions of what classifies as 'good design'. http://www.hustwit.com/category/objectified/
