Hi all,

I'm making my own skin, for my first instrument in SynthEdit (I love this tool).
I did a 300x600 jpg button (up side off, down side on), but if I change it from the skins template of SynthEdit, the size of the "standard" button is fixed, and seems I cannot change it. How can I do it?

You need to change the dimensions in the skin folder. I always create a whole new folder in synthedt/skins, if you reskinned a stock button, look for that file, or you can always load whatever in the bitmap loader and define it however.

There are stock examples of bitmap loader stuff, like knob, button, so you don't necessarily have to create the definitions file from scratch.

Nice! Didn't read the .txt! Thank you, again!

i'm going to suggest obeying the sizes given in the default skin
as a rule of thumb - although not necessary if you'll only use that
skin for that project.

because it obviously affects the positioning and alignment of your
GUI objects, as you change from skin to skin. also, SE shows all 'under
the bonnet' stuff using the default skin, so it can get confusing.

if you want skins that are interchangeable, and have a set of start-off
skins you can try a project out in, best to stick to the default sizes.

nb: you can also keep your image files and their definition txt files in
other folders outside of the skin/program files folder - but never move
them or change the name of their folder, or SE can't find them again
when you need to load a project. you would still use the SE 'skin' to deal
with the definitions like 'global.txt', 'background.txt' etc.

best way to start off a new skin, i have decided(!) is to make an empty
folder in 'skins' with a name, and put the strict minimum in there, don't
copy the whole skin over, you don't need to: if an object is missing, SE
just references the 'default' skin folder until you put an image+txt with the
name of the object you are replacing in your new skin.

other stuff: images align/snap to position *to centre* horizontally (and ideally
in sizes 2,4,8,16,32,etc if you want them edge to edge) or to top in their
vertical alignment. useful if you are starting new objects in ie: knobman, and
for deciding on your GUI dimensions in skinman.
