I just gave "Taurus" a listen on mp3skull and I don't think there's enough of a similarity personally. Maybe 2 measures of Taurus at the 2 minute mark sound the same as 2 measures of Staiway's intro.

If they win, I think I'll sue every big blues artist because their hit songs have the same chord sequence as a song I wrote when I was 12.

Yep, parts of it are a rip-off. But where do you stop suing people in this decades-old industry?
Oasis, for one, might have a fair bit to pay up...

At Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., the band played a medley that included Spirit’s Fresh-Garbage. The song, with its grinding bass line, shares side one of Spirit with Taurus. Set lists posted on Led Zeppelin’s official website name Fresh-Garbage as a song for the Spokane show and at least 11 other shows in the following months. Even if Page hadn’t heard Taurus at that first gig, he would have had other chances to hear it live as the bands crossed paths through 1969. “We did quite a few shows with those guys,” says Andes. “Not to say they might not have heard it from the record.” On May 16, 1969, the bands played a concert together in Detroit at the Grande Ballroom. On July 5, 1969, at the Atlanta Pop Festival, Spirit played right before Zeppelin. The two bands played the closing day of the Seattle Pop Festival on July 27. The weekend of Aug. 30, they played on two separate days at the Texas International Pop Festival.

Thank goodness for original modern-day artists, like Avicii, who avoid ripping people off...

If things were like this in 1700, composers like Bach, Handel, Mozart, etc. would have been sued countless times, since it was common practice to borrow ideas from anything interesting that come to their knowledge (of course, none of them got to be a millionaire over their music, though)

Its pretty common knowledge that the Zeps "borrowed" from a lot of tunes and divine justice that hip hop "paid homage".
Everything is recycled, theres only so many atoms to go around

the section in question is kind of a basic rudiment of folk/jazz/pop music. in other words spirit's 'original' part wasn't really that original to begin with.

It would be easier for me to side with them if they're relaxed about such things.

If they've been quietly suing others over the same kinda thing, then I'm more inclined to think all's fair in love and war.

I'd take the Daily Fearmongerers opinions with a bucket of salt by default.

Aleister Crowley was a lot of things to a lot of different people with different perspectives. A monster to some, a paragon of liberty to others, a crytpic author of esoteric knowledge to yet others. I don't think he was a genius by any stretch...what did he acheive? Not a fat lot, in the grand scheme of things - Aynd Rand's writings probably has more influence on libertarians and the hopelessly self-involved than Crowley, who tends to appeal more to folks interested in the occult and mysticism - there's a bit more to find in his works than just libertarianism, though that is certainly there in abundance. I don't reckon he was the wickedest man in the world, even in his lifetime. He did have friends in high places though, so it's possible that he could get away with more dastardly doings than most. I don't think paedophilia was so frowned upon back then as it is now, so they were probably referring more to the drugs and sexual debauchery generally - and pissing off other people in high places, which he also did a fair amount of, having the me-me-me personality that he had.

I wouldn't hold an interest in the occult against someone (I've held such interests myself in the past, and there are lessons to learn in amongst the nonsense) any more than I do for religious people. If they're ***holes, they're ***holes regardless of the books they've read or stupid (imo) beleifs they hold.

If he's messed with kids, then that's something else and a crime that should stand on it's own. I wouldn't just take the Daily Bullsh!t's word for it though!
