i don't think this is as good as you think it will be. i've had reaktor running on my ipad, via screen sharing, and it's all good....for like 2 minutes.....(alright, make that 10)

whether it's ipad, android or windows tablets, these apps need to play to the strengths of the interface, rather than try to shoe-horn a 15" plus (minimum), point-and-click experience onto a 9" unit
I agree BUT you can plug Windows/Android Tablets into HDMI/USB mouse. So you can play on the move and get serious when you want to as well.
mouse ?? :scared:

that's for power supply only if I'm not mistaken.

I must have overlooked Windows tablets mentioned here, sorry about that.

I also have the T100. Good device, remarkably powerful. Of course one cannot expect desktop performance. It's a tablet/netbook! Like an iPad is not a Mac Pro.

But it can handle about 20 stereo tracks (from an external USB thumb drive) in Cubase, run u-he Diva in draft mode @512 buffer size, has no problem at all with FM8 and other low resource synths, record and distribute MIDI (wifi and DIN), etc. With any regular ASIO interface of your choice, or with ASIO4all with decreased performance. It's true there are a number of softsynths that do now run well because they use only one core of the CPU. Compared to them, Diva runs remarkably well, I didn't expect that.

I'm an iPad user since January 2012. Two iPad2 and one iPad4. Good and reliable tablets, in use for music creation and production, but mostly only for controlling/programming stuff on PC/Mac. The T100 is a valuable addition to my mobile setup. For example last week I installed my Leap Motion controller there and can use this tablet as OSC/MIDI distributor only. Another preferred application is Scala where I relay incoming MIDI notes to hardware synths.

Hi Phil999,

Do you notice much performance difference between the two iPads?

Im running Lemur on an iPad2 and am curious if you notice a big improvement in handling or timing related tasks?

I'm very happy with the #2 so far and midiclock sync is very stable, latency feels negligable - but I do have to turn everything else off and restart the device before I can achieve this, and very occasionaly it will kinda choke for a sec. Does the #4 help much in this regard?

Thank you all for help (and especially to Tehlord), because actually I followed his advice and got a second hand, 1 week old, brand new, iPad AIR, 16GB...(a good $$ deal, i couldn't pass)

I got so tired of looking and trying to find something reasonable in Android...well I got not what I expected, only better... :)

Thanks again

getting an iPad Air now for a good price is a good option I think. Have fun.

I don't work much with MIDI clock, so I don't know. Lemur 5 introduced a new kind of clock that does not depend on the Lemur frames (16ms I think). Do you use this new method or regular MIDI clock? Better ask about this in the Lemur forum, there are folks specialised in this matter.

Concerning performance the #2 has even an advantage. As you know the #4 has a display with higher resolution, and templates with many Knob objects can be problematic (low frame rates). The problem is known to the developers, but it doesn't look like it will be addressed.

Lemur is the main reason why I got iPads. With the #4 I didn't see better performance, I think the #2 can handle all the processing already very well. How it is with clock related templates I don't know, but I guess this is not very demanding as well.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the info - very interesting! I'm quite surprised about the performance of the #4 being jeperdized by the higher resolution, goes to show that you cannot rely upon published statistics eh. Synthopia has just upped an article showing a comparison chart of all the iPad models - reading this would suggest that you could expect more than double the processing power from a #4 over the #2, with the new Air2 being 16x more powerfull - equivalent to an entry level macbook air!

Im using the new onclock sequencers in Lemur and they are a big improvement over the old ones, however the Lemur is slaved in my setup so it's recieving clock externally from an MPC1000 - working well in this setup!

Great! Now get something like Appshopper, make your wish list, and wait for sales. Black Friday is coming. (I hope Korg's Gadget goes on sale half-off!)

Liine's Lemur is the exception. Anyone with an iPad of any kind should get it I think
