What do you use for mix referencing?

I know of Magic AB and Reaktor mixright.
I've read of some format issues with AB but they seem to have been adressed?
Anyway i need something to compare my tracks against commercial mixes and my own for an EP so it seems kinda essential but was wondering if there was anything else out there or any other good techniques for mix referencing apart from burning tracks to a cd!
Cheers!

Anyone who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

Totally depends on the genre. I have a terabyte of FLACs to compare things against!
The Crookwood monitor controller I use makes it easy to A/B two (or up to eight) sources at the push of a button, level matched to within a quarter dB.

I just put the reference on an audio track and route that track to a separate hardware output of my audio card which goes to a separate channel on my console. Done.

Seems a bit over and above what i need, i'm not mastering my own tracks, leave that to the pros!
It's for stuff like checking the low end, overall mix balance etc as well as loudness when mixing. Cheers.

Yeah you're probably the guy i'd send 'em to.Hermetech Mastering wrote:Totally depends on the genre. I have a terabyte of FLACs to compare things against!

I have all my tracks ripped to my HD so it's just a case of sorting out how to set it up so i can objectively mix my tracks. Magic AB seems like a good inexpensive solution with Span for Analysis.
Cheers.

I was thinking about that but probably wouldn't be very seamless comparing 3-4 tracks and switching sections!geroyannis wrote:I just put the reference on an audio track and route that track to a separate hardware output of my audio card which goes to a separate channel on my console. Done.
Thanks a lot for all the replies. Monitor control and loudness are a couple of things that have been on my list to sort out. For now seems like Magic AB is the solution. Cheers.
