Hi forum!

I took some of my favorite (less obvious) tips and tricks in Live 9 and compiled them in a tutorial-style video. I wanted to share it with this community:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ebZ6xizRTk

It's pretty light on the explanatory stuff, but I think it should still be easy to follow.

Here's the list of tips, in case you want to skip ahead when watching:

1. unlinked clip envelopes for synthesis.
2. putting 3 identical LFOs in one rack and then slightly offsetting them
3. chopping before duplicating
4. deactivate all resampled channels; bring in clips to write sequences
5. default audio track on 'resampling'
6. instrument racks + chain selector for morphing synths
7. sidechain as external input for envelope follower
8. OS level macros for repetitive keyboard presses
9. playback scrubber with a muted clip to find cool parts of a clip
10. warping with the BPM slider
11. perfect high/low split (using phase cancelation)
12. empty midi track for organization
13. audio buffer rate and CPU resources
14. cleaning up session clips
15. using folders named '--------' as dividers
16. audio follow
17. recording against a loop forever
18. using a muted chopping block track that you can solo to find parts
19. duplicating effects in a row
20. slice to midi + randomizer + short midi clips + skrillex (or whatever)

if you like it/hate it ... let me know! thanks for watching!

cheers!

yay. thanks guys. Glad you find this useful.

LMK if the video is unclear or anything; I'm happy to explain further.

I've done a whole series of tutorials; they are a bit more explanation-heavy:

But I'm trying to let the techniques speak for themselves now, rather than listening to be go on and on about how to do something.

Here are all my video tutorials (a playlist on my channel):

I use this rack ALL THE TIME

so they key to this trick (which I could have explained better in my video) is a rack for the lows (with an eq, like you normally would use) and then the highs rack is itself a rack with 2 chains:

1 EQ with the same settings as before AND
1 utility with left and right invert turned on.

When Live sums the lows with an inverted clean signal, what happens is that all the low end (in the 'highs' rack) is canceled out and you're left with just the highs... on the top level rack, if you assign the same knob to the frequency of the EQ in both the low and high chain, you can use this to move the crossover point around.

perhaps you already got this from my video, but I thought I would offer some additional context.

cheers mate!
