I know there are probably decent free ones, but so far Rogue Amoeba has the best capture software I've used so far. Audio Hijack Pro also works with any app besides just Safari/Chrome/Firefox, etc. You can capture stuff from Netflix/Hulu/Amazon, too. Pretty awesome.

If you are just trying to record audio from various web sources, there are quite a few that will take all audio routed to your audio interface and record as mp3 or wav.

I used one for a few years called mp3mymp3. Any audio that goes to speakers gets recorded as mp3. Use an audio editor after that to edit and convert to wav.

dvdvideosoft's "Free YouTube to MP3 Converter" works well (it doesn't only convert to mp3).

With the DVDVideoSoft Free Studio you can do this and much more but...

...be careful not to install all these tool bars and adware programs... :o

(But it's possible, I managed to do without!)

True! Reading before pushing the "Next" button is always a good strategy.

There are enough browser extensions for those downloads, no need for additional apps imo.

I highly recommend ClipGrab; it's excellent, ad free, malware free, frequently updated donationware (donate or not) that takes out the YouTube ads, offers a variety of file format options (to save to), and allows multiple simultaneous downloads.

Total Recorder is a great solution and it comes in different versions.
I've been using the Pro one for a about a year and it's well worth the asking price.

Easiest and safest way is the old school way...patch cables between a pair of analog outs/ins on your interface and record the stream in your daw. You can record audio from any site (or local player) this way without any bs. Dont forget to turn monitoring off.

I use a script these days, but I'm not looking to have it 'worked around' by youtube, so I won't mention how to get it.

My solution :
If the sound of the video exist as part of an album, try to find and download the album

On the other hand - you could buy the album or just the single track...
