How do you "re-point" Komplete Kontrol to see 3rd party sample sets?

The Setup documentation says there is a "Komplete Kontrol" manual somewhere which describes the software in detail. I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Preferences - Add - (go to folder where they reside) - Rescan
That did it for the synths but I'm still working on it to get it to recognize sample libraries in Konakt (both licensed and unlicensed). It was mentioned earlier that the unlicensed ones may be able to scan in the data base and I may have missed doing an Import function properly for the licensed ones?

Huh - so, um, where is Komplete Kontrol? Just installed K10U and can't see it anywhere in the installer, or in Service Center....

EDIT - huh... no Rounds or Kontour either?!! What the.... Polyplex is there, Monark is there, but no sign of those other two new ones in the installer under the Reaktor content. Have they dropped a rather large ball here?

EDIT 2 - well, they're all here apparently - http://www.native-instruments.com/en/pr ... downloads/ . Don't show up anywhere else, including in your account. Ah well, least I found 'em.

So - initial thoughts are that it feels very version 1.0. I love the idea here, but there are too many drawbacks that are currently preventing it from being all that useful.

1 - You can only search by everything, or three broad categories (drums, synths, sampled), or an individual product (then you can also further drill down into, say, the Reaktor factory synths. You can't choose, say, three Reaktor synths such as the new 3, as they are separate products.

2 - Search results are alphabetical only. Which gives rise to a problem connected with:

3 - The loading times when switching instruments can be high, even on SSD (some here take 5-10s to load). So browsing alphabetically becomes an interminable bore, and probably the single biggest reason this won't get used much. Simple solution - arrange results by instruments, so you're only switching once in a while. Speaking of which:

4 - There's no indication where the patch is from until you load it. A 2nd column with the name of the product is essential. (There is a details pane to further crowd the browser, which - unbelievably - STILL doesn't have the name of the associated product with it. What were they thinking?!)

5 - [there is no 5]

6 - You can't resize the browser. This is very odd, and the LHS panes get incredibly crowded.

I've not yet attempted to load third party stuff...

All very 1.0. Here's hoping these things get addressed for the next version - it does have potential. One thing that won't change though is the quality of the tagging - next to Spectrasonics, it's sadly a very poor relation. Obvious musical terms such as "warm" / "aggressive" etc are entirely absent, there's no poly synth category (only lead, pad and misc), no way I can find to differentiate between regular ARPs and melodic sequences etc.

Final thing - in Cubase, the quick controls don't seem to be mapped to the 8 rotaries. The default for Massive etc does map the basic 8 macros.

That's what the + is for.

Wait, isn't the "Edit" for editing the preset tags in the browser? The "+" on mine at the top almost never does anything useful and isn't even there for most synths. It opens a little bit of info with a Kontakt patch. It never opens the full view. But usually its just not there. I have to go into Edit in the menu.

Can anyone with the keyboard tell us something about how the parameter page navigation works? Is it really just a left and right button to jump one page at a time? The thought of going through 16 pages by hitting a button 16 times is nauseating. I don't know how any company could create a hardware device without allowing direct navigation to a page or by a dial at least. Is there such a function in the Kontrol keyboards?

Yes, edit seems to just edit the tags. I tested the + on a couple of synths and they seemed to open the normal full versions - Kontour and Absynth I think it was. In general, you probably need to download the latest versions of all the products, I'm guessing functionality like this is a part of the new versions.

I was pointing to the 'i' which opens the info view with info about what type of preset it is (ens, nki etc). The 'edit' does open the tagging view (which is ridiculously tiny). I see the + for pretty much everything - except for a couple of factory Reaktor ensembles that don't have alternate panelsets (which is what it goes by in Reaktor). If you are not seeing it maybe you need to update something or there's a bug for you?

btw if you add a couple of alternate panelsets in any Reaktor ens it will then show the +

Incidentally, one strange anomaly this has thrown up. The only way to see the tags in the Reaktor instruments is via Kontrol. Is it beyond NI to give a Reaktor an update to make use of them at source?

Yeah, then again the same was true of Kore too, the Reaktor presets all had tags but only in Kore.

True. Guess it's beyond them, then... very odd.

Weird. I've updated my plug-ins according to the latest in Service Center. Massive doesn't have the +, don't Absynth did either, only the arp notes symbol is there. Though I do see it with Kontakt presets. It doesn't open the full view in Kontakt though, just the top pane with the voice counts etc.

I'm using the VST in OSX.
