The best Impulse Response [IR] sites

Can people just sample IR's off their gear and then sell them?
Is that legal?
Are there some restrictions on that?

I thought about that ...but can you buy a synth and then program it and make money from that? I suspect the same rules apply, otherwise it would be ridiculous for a hardware dev to say "you can't sell anything made from our whatever!" This would potentially make ALL music illegal.

...unless someone was stick-up-his-butt enough to copyright presets.

Good luck sampling the modulation. By the way, this is actually illegal I think, but cabs are different from reverbs.

As far as I know cabs actually distort the sound a bit (yes, even without the rectifiers in front of them), so it isn't enough to sample the impulse response. Is this relevant? Probably not, but just throwing it out there.

Illegal how? As you mentioned the modulation can't be sampled.. so it's not really a carbon copy. Just like the cabs you mention.

Hi all,

Just found out that Arthur Baker used a Sony DRE reverb on 'Planet Rock'...apparently it was the 2000. Therefore I'm looking for the IR's of either the DRE 2000 (of which I read was too complex to create IR's of the unit) or the DRE S777.

Apparently there are IR's of the DRE S777, but even a thorough dig with the Internet Wayback machine failed to produce any results...can anyone help?
