Slooowwwwly... Still trying to determine instrumentation and overall sound.

I want it to be more electronic than the last, but don't want to stray from the tech/death thing. Also don't want the electronic side to fall into any particular electronic sub genre.. so it's kinda tricky.

Acou6tics is great. I've got it sounding just the way I need.. now I just gotta start actually producing something with it. :P

Isn't every new project tricky? Trying to find your own voice, trying to be different from your last one,
Ain't easy man! It's like pulling teeth, but that uphoria when you finish!!!!

Ok thanks didn't know that.

Any Ideas on my fundamental problem of overwhelming high end fuzz/distortion/static or whatever that overwhelms the actual guitar?

I can't seem to get anywhere near the tone (metal solo) without having the high end crap all over it.

Sorta answered this on your thread over at gearslutz. Though reading over there again.. I think I misunderstood your problem.. so I'll re-iterate here.

Basically.. try seeing what you can get away with using the least amount of distortion possible. And with those whiny mids and screeching highs.. insert a pro filter, (right after the amp) and try to smooth over those harsh tones a bit.

You can also eq out those highs and mids.. or even try a bit of both (filtering and eq).

I usually insert a couple eq's right after the amp (shelving and parametric to augment the lows and mid-highs).. then maybe a pro filter to roll off any harsh highs.. if there's too much fuzzy high end after all that.

Then, I'll add in the other effects.. like chorus and/or phaser (for some movement and width).. or whatnot. Maybe a couple more eq's to beef up whatever the modulation might have washed out a bit.. then a little delay and/or reverb at the end of the chain.

It really all just comes down to lots of experimentation.

I totally feel your pain for just wanting to get to the end result quickly (was totally frustrated early on with all this stuff myself). But, you'll find that if you can settle down and take the time to really learn what's going on as you add and tweak stuff in your effects chains.. you'll eventually start to get good results.

Yea, I didn't realize that until just now that I was talking to the same person.

Yea, somethings I do get to the end result rather quickly with youtube video's and forum posts, but I'm starting to see that this isn't going to be one of those things.

dunno if this qualifies as "virtual metal", but it's some form of virtual (post?) rock music, and gets quite loud and noisy in places:

I could understand if someone having not a real drummer and the hardware stuff to record it but have a sense to do instrumental (metal) songs with virtual guitars and bass? IMO NO... Can't reproduce it live, it remains all in a dusty (home) studio or became famous on YouTube... I also did the drums (and some synths) with virtual instruments but recording true bass, true guitars, true vocals... Seems so absurd to Me... :hihi:

This is a true (Prog) Metal Song played by true Humans with True Instruments:

Thanks for the thread guys. I am unsure how I feel about it, but the whole thing is thought provoking and inspirational. I like the music, and I guess it's all in how you use it. keep it coming for now. See where this goes.

What are the options for virtual metal vocals? Anything other than Vocaloid, UTAU and Soundiron's Voices Of Rage?
