I appreciate the GUI as is and as well as the layout.

This was the synth on which I learned subtractive synthesis/patching and the layout made it super easy to understand.

The fact that one can select background color and increase/decrease overall size means it is robust in a functional sense.

raster beautifying it is a lot of work for no functional gain.. I'd rather it stay the way it is or at least have an option to keep it as is.

Or really.. use the effort to get an extra oscillator, waveforms, or a mini mod matrix in there.. something on which to enhance the sound.

Still pitching a fit, Mr. Idf?

I simply explained a bit about the synth, explained why some presets sound similar, and pointed out that most people don't think the synth looks "horrid" -- your word.

And then you went into several lengthy posts and had a cow. This is a true 'gotcha' moment, and I've enjoyed every little bit of it. So, watch out ... or I might "lash out" again. Perhaps some sort of "lecture" about behaviour in general might be in order! (Obviously, I do love your choice of words.)

Meanwhile to assist 'bad viewers'(?), I did want to add that I have significant vision issues and easily solved this with Synth1 by making the GUI as large as I required. Also, there are a good thousand or so RGB colour choices, so there is this option for the vision-impaired user as well.

What a whiny, silly and immature thread. All too typical. Here's hoping everyone finds better things to do with their time!

Thought the same: what you need more then resizeable gui and free color change if you have "bad view"??? strange..

I feel compelled to add my two cents :D

After staring at Ichiro Toda’s Synth1 factory skin for over two years, I thought I’d change it up a bit. I’ve found that the look and feel of whatever instrument you’re using has a lot to do with the sounds you create with it. If it hurts to look at, then you’ll probably be more focused on your migraine than the sound you’re working on. So, here are a couple of code combos I threw together…

The first is my personal favorite: #414162 x #a7a7b4 — a nice muted lavender theme…

Image

This next one isn’t so easy on the eyes. I just thought it would be fun to make a cyan & grey skin ala Twisted Tools: #323232 x #00d2b9 …

Image

And last but not least, I like the look of Dune2 by Synapse Audio, so … #48587b x #9aa3b8 …

Offtopic: What I did wrong? When I change "options" from Slider Window to Transparency Window buttons does not work with mousewheel. 1000000 clicks until I get sound I want. Any ideas? Win 8, 32bit, FL Studio 11 /Latest Version/.
I also have to click on button before I use mousewheel, if I do not this, knob does not react on mousewheel. Full mousewheel support for this synth would be great in future updates... and also better GUI even the GUI does not make any sound.

Thanks for any help/reply.

@squid79 The gray one looks great!

Hey guys Ive had an Idea, what if you use skinnable VST wrapper, in order to give Synth1 a better GUI, would it be possible?

This is what i'm talking about: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=168671

If I understand it right, you can create skins for every VST that previously was unskinnable (as long as all parameters are assignable of course). Does anyone know more about this? I'd really like to see this skin in action: http://i47.tinypic.com/nfr5vk.jpg

This would be very interesting. As much as I like Synth1, I completely hate that GUI, especially those red stripes in the knobs, and the red flashy "buttons". I'm one of those guys that has problems with the red colour, and unfortunately, a lot of VST creators insist in the Red (perhaps it is a stand out colour for the majority of people, but there are a lot of people that has the same problem as me.

As much as I'd enjoy giving Synth1 a much needed face-lift, I can't help but defend it's GUI just a little. I mean, at least it's legible. I still struggle to read the labels on the latest/greatest skins made for Oatmeal. The problem with Oatmeal is it's so jam-packed with features that everything is squished together on the front panel. As much as I hate tabs in a VST, Oatmeal desperately needs an A/B panel tab.

Anyways, I'm getting off topic. I dunno. I've fallen in love with the damn thing over the years. I'm open to new skins, but I guess I've developed a bit of nostalgia for it's ugly, utilitarian look :)

There's already one: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... &start=570 ;) Kudos again to the author ;)

^ I'm not crazy about the Lumina skin, which is nice though. But I pefer the MrM Blue. I agree with most everybody about the dark blue part down below, a little tough to read, but overall less cramped :)

Flavour skins are usually top notch. I use several of them, like in Oatmeal, Alchemy and Wusikstation, for example.
