Hi people,
I know a lot of people have talked about the high-level artifacts these bring to the sound. If you sample the machine, you will find even with the tube knob on 0, it will still create some distortion.
So I have managed to bypass the tube on an ESX. Now the main output is much clearer - only downside is makes the machine slightly quieter.
Check out some audio samples here: https://soundcloud.com/midierror-soundw ... oops-beats
And a vid with the machine here:

Give me a shout if your interested in doing the mod.
Peas.

Another option is to replace the valves with better ones to give a cleaner boost. I did this and it DOES make a big difference. Why limit your options?

Must say that, even with the stock tubes, I've never noticed any distortion at all when my Tube gain knob is at minimum. I have an older Smartmedia unit.

The valves included are electro harmonix but add so much noise. Yeah you can replace them quite easily
But i have created a tutorial about how to bypass the valves if anyone is interested?
