For the moment we can at least change the main colors of Synth1.

But it's true that if all the VST's (at least freeware) were skinnable, it would be a revolution in the good way!

Anybody (having a correct eyesight) can't understand how much the world of the software musical plugins is almost reserved to them. There are VERY, VERY, VERY few plugins which are designed with a thought to the persons having a severe visual impairment. Far too small GUI's, very insufficient contrasts, bad choices of colors, bad choices of fonts, bad divisions of the parts, and some are even built apparently to accumulate ALL the visual flaws! Like this one for example among so many others...

I messaged and emailed him, cross your fingers!
Great, I hope he will implement skinning support.

There are 2 things that prevent me from using Synth1:
1. the horrid GUI - call me superficial if you will, but I simply can't stand it.
2. a lot of presets sound similar.

But I admit, it's mainly the GUI...I had the same problem with Oatmeal, but fortunately some talented ppl took care of it and now it's one of my main 'go to' synths ;)

You're complaining about something someone has spent many hours perfecting and then offers for FREE? Great, don't use it. (P.S. Most of us don't think it's anywhere near 'horrid'.)

See my post above. Have a look at that and note it costs real money.

First: just because it's free, doesn't mean ppl have no right to "complain". FYI I wasn't complaining, I was stating my opinion - there's a difference.

Second: even when it comes to freeware, pointing out possible issues from a user point of view may help the developer notice aspects that for him may not be obvious.

Third: replace "most of us" with "some of us" and you'll get closer to the reality; the GUI has been one of the main improvement suggestions since ages.

Next time before jumping like that take a moment to understand that ppl are free to post their opinions on forums - just as much as you do. They're called forums for a reason, you know...

Dude, I totally disagree- you haven't checked out the right presets, then. In fact it's extremely versatile... Check out the soundbanks GreenBank and Goldbank. And the "Art Institute" Banks. There are many more awesome Soundbanks on KVR. Or get this pack with 9006 Patches: http://www.vstcafe.com/2010/04/8749-synth1-patches.html

There is a reason why many people think it's the best free synth. :)

Check out that demo of Greenbank/Goldbank https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9Jqze04dVA

Can anyone speak Japanese here? If he's up for it, it may make things easier.

Well, it is the attitude more than the comment that caught my attention.

The facts are plainly that, although it may not be as 'pretty' as something from FabFilter or u-he, the GUI of the Synth1 is extremely functional and practical. Next, there have been numerous threads about Synth1 here and on many other forums. Based on the very many I've seen, a few have commented that it is not the world's greates GUI, and some do wish it could be modernised, but MOST do find it far, far less than "horrid."

I think the ultimate issue here with the post in question is a serious lack of knowledge on the subject of softsynths in general and their GUIs, whether free or not. For looks and especially performance / sound, Synth1 has kicked the butts of many commercial synths. Still does, actually. And if someone doesn't like the available presets offered, there's nothing stopping from designing better ones ... if you know how to do this.

I meant similar sounding presets once you start browsing the tons of banks created for the synth. But it's ok, we don't all have to like the same synths ;)
