Hello everyone
First time poster here so sorry if this subject is not in the right thread/seem amateur.

Basically I have been inspired by 'Flume' since the beginning.
Being a teenager, I have looked up to him and drawn much life/music inspiration from him, and I hope one day to make his type of music.

I don't know to much music theory, however I know how to use abelton back to front and can make good sounding music using sylenth1, samples and plug ins.

How can I create music like Harley (Flume) ?
As in synths and drums...

These songs in particular..

- The piano like sounds!

and

- The sound that appears at 00.1

Any ideas would be VERY MUCH appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi dude !

I'm new to this forum too, and Flume is one of my favorite artists.

I don't know if it will help but I heard that Flume was very inspired by hip hop, and yeah, that's pretty obvious when you hear the drums in Holdin On, or the beat on Sleepless.

I was looking for tutorials and all about Flume-style production, but it seems like there aren't a lot about him.

I found this tutorial, not really his kind of style but it's quite a beginning

I hope it will help, don't hesitate to send me tutorials and all if you can find any

See ya !

I hear a lot of instant chopping. I recon he's bouncing a lot of samples and chords/stuff/etc he's made to audio, then chopping them around on the beat. The audio being chopped is effects heavy, it's been filtered (lowpass filter for warmth), chorussed, had echo and reverb added to it. Adding effects and THEN chopping emphasises the chops much more than if you were to chop up dry sounds, then add effects afterwards. That's certainly what's happening with the piano.

For rhythmic inspiration, listen to a lot of oldschool hip-hop. He seems to have quite of a nod to that. Which I can dig.

Sendy, do you know/have any youtube tutorials that show an example of adding effects and then chopping. I'm a novice produce and am trying to imagine what that would sound like. In my mind the abrupt stop would sound glitchy. The technique has me thinking, thanks!
