I just installed Tassman and have started reading the doc. Just out of curiosity, Ingo, what is it you found lacking in Tassman 4 that Tassman 5 might have supplied?Ingonator wrote: Anyway i had sold the modelling collection last year, also as due to the fact that Tassman 5 never seems to be released...
What's a good physical modelling Vst?

For the moment I think It will suffice with free stuff (this is for fun and learning only).
Thank you all for your interest
I think there are very proffesional mentioned physical modelling vst, but for now I think I can get very near of what I want with free stuff (m-theory, RMXL, etc.). I was able to make a trumpet in M-theory that actually sounds good enough. (and a guitar).
Of course I will have in mind all those mentioned and may be in the future I will purchase one of them.

i know about the older non vst's etc, but for my money the VL series is the VSTI that nobody can do, yet.

They can do it. But they won't as long as the hardware continues to sell as well as it does. It is software already. We're just required to buy their dedicated hardware that has it installed with it if we want it.

thing is they dont sell the hardware anymore either.
what i meant is that its probably beyond the scope of independent programmers.

It's not. It's simply patented, therefore, inaccessible by third parties (as FM was for many years).Tony Ostinato wrote:thing is they dont sell the hardware anymore either.

Well, that may be the reason i dusted off my VL70m after i sold my Motif with VL expansion board...Tony Ostinato wrote:theres nothing in vst thats anywhere near the yamaha vl70-m.
id be very impressed if anyone could code a good emulation of that.
i really especially dont care for arturia brass.
i use wallander and samplemodeling with a yamaha wx5, nothing else ive tried does a good "slur" legato mode.

and many more examples:

but again something that would emulate a yamaha VL series, and load in banks/presets id be BLOWN AWAY!!
I still cant live withouth the expresiveness of a VL sound combined with a breathco troller...
And there is 2 things i dont get
1) why noboddy ever got something akin to the VL brass and woodwind sounds in a vst.
2) why yamaha stopped producing hardware with this technollogy...

Maybe check out those two Ensembles for Reaktor:
"Silverwood" and "Herald Brass" - Now if only I had a breath controller...

I wonder where I've been to have missed ugo making everything freeware? I use Metallurgy almost every day of the year. String theory was great fun to play with, but ate up the resources on my old pc, so I couldn't justify the purchase of MTheory (even though it was only $20 or something). I had a huge crash, so upgraded, and then didn't get around to adding String theory back. So, now I've got MTheory and Ironhead! Excellent!Numanoid wrote:M-Theory by ugo used to be payware, but has now become freeware, how do you rate it?:

It employs the Karplus–Strong string synthesis psychical modeling method: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karplus%E2 ... _synthesis

I agree completely.BBFG# wrote:Something I find I like best about 'modeling' synth/players is the fact that they aren't perfect simulations of real instruments. That seems to make them even more real and instrumental by them self. The quirks each has in its sound almost justifies having as many as a guitarist would their collection of guitars or even a flotist with their wood and metal variants.
But like real instruments, they either grab us or they don't.
I do recognize these as my weakest point of not being able to resist a sale on when they pop up.

reaktor silverwood and herald arent even close, and i think they did more harm than good because people quote those and think thats it but those dont cover 1/100th of a VL.
reaktor is kind of a clumsy bear to use live as well.
i just wish i could erase all of those because it muddies up the waters of trying to get an independent programmer to do a VL, which is going on 2 decades for me.

It's annoying that there doesn't even seem to be anything that I can use to edit my VL70m on OS-X Mavericks or even manage patches - the old Yamaha editors are defunct and the only other ones I could find are PowerPC.Tony Ostinato wrote:reaktor silverwood and herald arent even close, and i think they did more harm than good because people quote those and think thats it but those dont cover 1/100th of a VL.
