hypercyclic is an LFO-driven MIDI arpeggiator. Two tempo-synced LFOs can be used to modulate various parameters to create interesting rhythmic effects and chord variations. The product is complemented by a groove function for playing slightly off the beat.

The main use for hypercyclic is to generate MIDI that can be recorded and/or sent to other plugins. However it also features a simple built-in synth for testing purposes.

Please read release notes for more details.

"In the year 2008 the independent organization named "United Sounds Alliance" declares war against the reptilian conspiracy oppressing the human race. There are just 5 years left before they build the "artificial black hole" that will stop the time flow as we all know and, therefore, destroy the world. The U.S.A. discovered the secret plan but was immediately detected by the reptilian forces. Anyway, since we're ll evoluted beings, it happens to be a kind of a simulated war with no blood-sweating: the "battle" will just set up in space, where the population will be not offended and the contenders will face one another with special spaceships equipped with the best sound technologies and creative tools available. You are one of the fighters engaged, trying to save the earth from the evil dominance of the serpent's egg conspiracy. It's your time to set the world free!"

Entry: Blip
By: Nicolas Fournel (NickSonic)
Type: Instrument
OS&Formats: Windows Stand-alone
Download: Download (Win)
Blip is a sound design program / loop creator / performance tool.

The concept behind Blip is to create innovative sounds and loops by drawing with the usual graphic tools (pencil, airbrush, line). The classic painting functions take a whole other dimension, as they create melodies and rhythms in the musical domain.

Blip continuously scans a grid of 64x64 cells. Each cell corresponds to a note, whose starting time is determined by its column, and whose instrument is determined by its row. The color of the cell controls the volume of the note (red component), its pan (green component), and its pitch (blue component).

Painting in the grid can be done in real-time while the loop is playing, which coupled with MIDI support and numerous shortcuts, transforms Blip into a very powerful live instrument. There are 16 patterns, each of them having its own tempo.

Blip can be used in many different ways. Here are a few of them:
  • with a lot of short percussive sounds to create glitchy patterns.
  • with a slow tempo and long samples with fading envelopes to create complex ambiences
  • with simple tones and only a few painted cells to create wave sequences
  • with sine waves for additive / granular synthesis etc?

Tiny-Q is one of the world's tiniest full parametric EQ, if not the tiniest. At least in regards of the GUI. On not more than 4585 pixel you can find an eight band parametric equaliser with pass, shelf and peaking filters. Beside that there's a small magnitude display and a level meter.

The design goals include to create a very small, fast and accurate EQ. The compromising side effects of a non-distracting GUI might come handy in some situations, when it is all about sound.

System Recommendation:

  • Intel or G5 Mac
  • OS X, 10.4.x (Tiger)
  • An AU host which supports Cocoa UIs (Logic, Plogue Bidule, GarageBand, AU Lab...).
Not all hosts support Cocoa UIs. If they do not, they will create a generic UI for the AU, which can be restrictive.

Installation:

  • Unzip the archive
  • Move the contents of the archive into: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components

Rules, Information, Guidelines, etc.

Show/Hide Rules

The "KVR Developer Challenge 2007" is for anyone who develops audio plugins or applications (i.e. a "developer"). The challenge is to create and release a brand new free audio plugin or audio application that will benefit the community at large. Creativity is key, it can be as simple or as complex as you want - KVR members will vote on the entries and pick the eventual winner.

There are a few changes this year so please take the time to read the rules and information below.

You can go wild! Any operating system, any plugin format, even a stand-alone application - anything that will assist in music making goes! You have just over four months to get it together - submissions will end on September 3rd, 2007. They will all then be hosted for download on the KVR server and released "AT ONCE" for public appraisal and voting!

Although anything goes, you should consider how to appeal to the largest market - things such as open source or being multi-platform will garner a bigger audience, and consequently more votes. This is your call though. Whatever you are comfortable with!

The Rules:

  • Anyone may enter.
  • Your entry must be an original creation made by you (your team / crew / company / family). Of course you may reuse code / modules / development frameworks, but the actual plugin / application should be a new, original creation, not just an obviously cut-down subset of a program you have already written.
  • Your entry must not break any copyright rules or license agreements - if your entry uses GPL code then your code should adhere to any restrictions imposed by this, for example.
  • Your entry may support any operating system.
  • Your entry may support any plugin format, or be a stand alone application / utility.
  • You may use any programming language or development environment (e.g. programming languages such as C++, Delphi, Java, etc. or any of the myriad of development applications such as SynthEdit, SynthMaker, Max/MSP, etc.).
  • Design and testing must be done in private - public beta testing is not allowed as this may affect the voting process. If you require beta testing resources please see the beta testing section below.
  • Entries can be submitted any time until September 3rd, 2007 11:59 pm GMT.
  • Entries must be in a compressed format (ZIP or DMG) or an EXE format installer, submitted along with a good-quality full-size PNG or JPEG screenshot.
  • Entries must be submitted along with text containing information about the entry including a description, specifications (operating system, plugin formats, not forgetting extra information such as Universal Binary, x64, and any minimum requirements) and in case of VST format usage, must contain the following text: "VST is a trademark of Steinberg Soft- und Hardware GmbH".

This information is required and must be in txt format. It is separate from any optional manual that the entry may come with.

Please refer below on the required format of this text.

    Plugin Name:
    Developer Name:
    Type:
    Description:
    Operating System:
    Formats:
    Misc:
(Minimum requirements, extra info such as Universal Binary, x64, credits etc. )

  • You grant KVRaudio.com the permission to distribute your entry for download via our server from September 10th, 2007 onwards.
  • You grant KVRaudio.com the permission to act on your behalf, without monetary involvement, for your entry to be published and/or publicized in/on written publications with or without accompanied media such as CDs and DVDs, as well as online publications. You may choose to opt out via a written disapproval of such permission at the time of your entry. However, you may be contacted before submission deadline for individualized permission request by a KVRaudio.com associate. KVRaudio.com will not seek or make attempts at financial gain by promoting your entries on written and online publications.
  • KVR Members will vote for their favourite entry between September 17th - October 22nd, 2007
  • The winners will be announced on October 24th, 2007.
  • The prize fund will be delivered to the winner via PayPal within a week of the winner being announced.

The Prize (Money Money Money)

  • The prize will be cold, hard, cash, made up from donations from the KVR community, primed with a very generous $500 donation from the main organizer behind this event, Tuz! Donations can be made via PayPal and will be held in escrow by KVRaudio until the winner has been selected. The prize will be paid to the eventual winner via PayPal. We'll endeavor to keep the prize fund total updated here.

Voting

  • Voting will commence on September 17th and end on October 22nd, 2007 (Depending on the amount of submissions, the voting period may be extended for another week or so). All KVR members will be eligible to vote although we may instigate some restrictions at the time of voting - maximum joined date, minimum number of posts, etc. - to help prevent voter fraud.
  • The full results will be posted and the winner announced within a couple of days of the voting ending.

Beta Testing

  • If you require a private forum for beta testing we can provide you with one here at KVR - make a request in the DC Chat forum and we'll sort one out for you; you will then be able to give people access to the forum for any beta testing duties. If you need some beta tester we may be able to recommend some too. Of course you may already have your own beta testing system in place, or you could just use e-mail.

Good Luck!
