First of all, the gui is what it is...

but you can change it :D You can ether buy one or you take the time and make your own.

Apart from that, it is the best software out there for Live rec or FOH mixing, with the options to use whatever VST plugin inside the mixer.

SAC - software audio console is the live version of SAW, which is more of a live mixing console, whereas SAW would be the recording and editing part of it, just like a sequencer or a tape machine.

Hello, .

I own both SAWStudio and Software Audio Console and both applications are "second-to-none".

Pricing has been reduced significantly on SAWStudio. Check out the Web site: RML Studios

PS: Though some consider it significant, I am really not at all concerned with the apps being 32-bit. If you truly understand how great the quality is of SAWStudio's internal processing - then the type of app is really of no concern.

Mr. Lentini, the developer, does have a very specific manner in which he works with his applications. But once you get a feel for his methodology - in the end, this methodology really does make sense.

Checkout the demos for yourself. Also, check out the Demonstration Videos

The SAW family has always been second to none in terms of sound quality, performance, and editing speed. Compared on its core feature set it can't be beat. Ultimately the lack of native plug-in API integration hurts it. You have to use adapters to get standard plugins to work and this is where SAW ultimately lost me over a decade ago. Even today, every time I'm pushing regions around or doing any kind of editing in my current DAW it makes me long for the days of SAW and how fast it was to do everything. If only it ran on OS X and had better plug-in API support.
