SynthMaster 2

Reviewed By MadAnthony81 [all]
April 5th, 2014
Version reviewed: 7 PRO 64 on Windows

EDIT: I'm rating it an 8 because the GUI freezes easily and its really tedious to program a sound. Also, the factory presets are lame. It's capable of sounding great.

Synthmaster is excellent. Excellent at all around. Excellent at electro. I've heard it excellent at trance and classy house too. Exclent at dub and dup step too for sure. It great with wobbles and that classy pop sound for each genre. Something you can hear on the radio in you car. You know, like the stereo radio like 109.3 or something. Aside from that Synthmaster is difficult to handle is the user programming area. Regardless this is what I have to say.

Synthmaster surerly delves into a new sound on the market. It quite analog on it own is right. It does have multiple synth sound alikes on top of it's own saturation given. The Copy cat kinda of sort of sounds like main analog synths is quite noticeable though of course not exact. It has it's own sound like I said. It's presets are all around but also have many specific genres. Their mixibility within themselves does not really alter in a bad way. They are highly mixable within themselves even the genres, for a "different" sort of mix that is. By the way the presets are fairly boring. Probably more of what you would call typical or lax.

Synthmaster is totally capable of making beyond extraordinary custom presets that can also be saved quite easily and to usb afterwars through windows explorer.

It's subtractive synthesis includes a total of 4 oscillators total. What's cool too, is you can use additive synthesis in substitute or instead of any subtractive synthesis of desire. Maybe possible to sound good that way with hard work, I don't know, I haven't tried really hard at that yet. But it would be difficult. There is also an easy to use make-your-own waveform kind of thing to use but it may possibly be difficult to get useable results from that in which you agree with at first.

It FX synth are good and easy to get once you get the hang of it. All in all the GUI looks seems mathematical but do have copy and paste with a couple clicks. The Synthmaster FX VST is identical. I see room for improvement in Synthmaster for easiness but I rated it high because excellent results are possible.

It's filters are a little touch or seemingly hard to delve and into and use. But what is really cool is the resonance and the options with the 2 filters. The resonance goes super high so it's always there if needed and there's a boost to the filters along with quite a few filter crossover/cutoff types.

Room for improvement is needed with parameter mapping and freezing issues. But it has a smooth analog sound for pop. Enjoy! Great for all kinds of music that gel with pop and excellent programming skills. Not too mention with the right waveform it's one of the grittiest spread out synths iv'e used. MAny waveforms also in all facets. Really cool that way with the waveforms. Real authentic analog sounding and also on top of that original.

Rapture

Version reviewed: 7 Pro 64 on Windows

EDIT: RAPTURE has some problems with its functions. The dials on the frequency filter don't show numbers and there aren't any copy and paste on the filter section. Also in the oscillator section im not able to get the chain up element section to chain up properly. It is very analog but not quite perfect.

Rapture is absolutely incredible. Its a real 10. It's real analog and has so many features for manual adjustability which is for advanced/intermediate users mostly but if you are intermediate/beginner you might be able to learn too. This synth is most likely not suited for you if you want presets. The presets are simple and a little lame.

This synth has many different filter combinations with a total of 2 filters per oscillator. This part is the most difficult to understand of the whole synth by far. What you'll need to understand is that f1 goes to filter cutoff 1 and f2 is to filter cutoff 2. DSP is for those efx listed in that section nearby. And all the filter and DSP gets routed in the drop menu's showing. That being learned, you will be able to easily operate the synth now regardless of ability. Given you put a good amount of effort in.

Rapture has 6 oscillators. Each have their own set of identical parameters. Each osc. has filter cutoff, DSP, pitch with ADSR, cutoff with ADSR, resonance with ADSR and amplification with ADSR. Next and not least is the LFO (low frequency oscillator). It does not have an ADSR but it does have changeable paramters like attack and release sort of things. Quite useful for dubstep and pads especially.

It's EFX are cool but are not capable of many simultaneously per osc. It also has a master EFX and section but lacks a MASTER ADSR at the end of all the oscillators.

I highly recommend Galbalum waveforms. They're way cooler than the stock waveforms. If you want presets I wouldn't look to the factory presets, they are simple and uninteresting.

Rapture is easy to install but you need to install the update separate and the new version I've had trouble with only in the area of it showing the frequency values on the cutoff filter which seem to be missing this time.

Great synth for Hip hop and and rock, metal. That classy sorta hard or more flat trance. It has a mildly hard sound that is very analog when done up right. This could easily be the greatest synth out but it lacks the noise osc. factor of which its noise is very mellow and not bright. Which is well valued for originality I suppose. Well, I guess it's a flat sounding synth with great depth in the analog area. Enjoy! It's got the largest tweakabilty.

Dimension Pro

To me over all this rates a solid 8. It's not a great synthesizer but it's a little over mediocre. It would be pretty much strictly just for presets because there are few parameters to change anyways. The few changes you can make can only affect the preset choose from the many available. 3rd party expansions are available of which I only license Mo'Phatt which is inredible and extremely useful for stand up DJ and hip-hop. From that west to east coast and probably north and south too. I'm sure you can find mo'phat expansion useful for drums and all cool sounds for stand up DJ. The only thing you would need to accomplish that.

To me because the Dimension Pro is only valuable for drums on Mo'phatt expansion. The built in presets on Dimension Pro are not valuable because they aren't of the absolute highest caliber. But they are quite well suited for decent orchestra and decent EDM but with out very many choices in the EDM. The violins are noticeably good and realistic. The reverb can be turned off also. The violins can be use for many uses including hip-hop. Mess with the attack to get that quick sound. It varies but can be done after hard work. Also there are many violins to choose from. Including 1st 2nd 3rd 4rth and maybe 5th I believe. This to me is not biased because I like violins. They just seems much more noticeably better and usably because they are simply better sounding.

Its simple and easy to use for a child. For me all I want out of it is to use my mo'phatt hip hop and DJ drums. They're excellent and top notch and indispensable for hip hop. Again, the reverb can be taked out 99 precent from mo'phatt too. There's a reverb and efx button on the synth. Have at it it's a blast with all the many many MANY sounds on mo'phatt expansion.

Cheers. LOWERY.

PS. NO freezes on my PC. A little difficult to install sometimes if you aren't good with that.

Sylenth1

EDIT: Sylenth1 is taken down to a 9 because it isn't perfectly analog. But it does have great effects. It's GUI doesn't freeze and it the synth does function properly most of the time.

RE: EDIT. Sylenth1 has exclent analog all around. Even in the lows and highs. Very changeable and tangible from smooth to gritty all around in any frequency. Tip, FLANGER helps A LOT.

EDIT:

Sylenth1 is great for trance. Also Various EDM such as house and electro. Dubstep not so much but can do wobbles well and is easy to program to MIDI keyboard controller on the fly. MIDI mapping seems great. It can find it's way to any genre but perhaps not exactly the way your personal flavor might want.

It's sounds like a Virus when you add saturation the right way. It can also sound real similar to other analog synths that way as well using different saturation. I use Ableton Live Saturator for excelent results.

Fun and easy to program. Very stable and in 64-bit too. I like the GUI and reminds me of a Virus ice cream sandwich.

It's not cheap but if you need a trance synth it might be the one you want.

Registration is easy and E'mails are pretty prompt. It's very nice.

CONS: I don't see this as a GREAT versatile synth but it CAN get somewhat versatile.

PROS: GREAT leads. Decent lows and highs. Analog filters are cool with added saturation.

EDIT:

I would like to add that i like that this synth isn't overly saturated. Who would like to add their own saturation for a unique integral sound to their works? I would! With sylenth1 I really can make it sound like different synths with the right saturator. Great to change this synth yourself in the lows high and mids with your DAW. It's a synth that sounds great and then better later.

I like Sylenth1 effects and the EQ seems to be necasary. Even on regular 2 pole it adds dimension without adjusting. This synth is very multi dimensional. Multiple oscilator and volume controls and voices. All done well.

ARP's are awesome. Never seen anything like it.

I only rated this thing an 8 because I feel it can't do absolutely everything well. Im comparing to thee ultimate synth possible in a way. It's a dated synth and lacks some programing features. Still, I would rather have this than a hard to manuever analog. Hey I got MIDI mapping and multiple tracks here with this.

Don't hate_relate. EW YUH.

P.S. Sylenth1 is a breeze and a blast to program with. So very fun and rewarding when your in the groove and grace your way to taste! Bless you.
